Following a second bye week in three weeks, the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves travel to Bemidji, Minn., to face the Bemidji State Beavers in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series, Nov. 23-24.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS: The Beavers entertain the Seawolves with a four-game losing streak after being swept by Michigan Tech, Nov. 16-17 at home (5-4, 2-1) and at Colorado College (3-2, 6-3), Nov. 9-10 ... both games against MTU went into extra minutes ... with six conference games played, BSU is No. 9 in the standings with three points ... BSU's lone league win came against Nebraska Omaha (3-2) on Oct. 27 ... the Beavers are led by senior F Ben Kinne (2-5-7), senior F Jordan George (3-3-6) and senior F Brance Orban (1-5-6) ... sophomore G Andrew Walsh has dressed in seven games for BSU, posting a 2-4-1 record, 2.69 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.

LAST TIME vs. BEMIDJI STATE: The Seawolves were swept by the Bemidji State Beavers in their home finales at the Sullivan Arena on March 2-3, 2012 ... BSU won on Friday night, 2-1, before coming from behind to win on Saturday, 5-4 ... on March 2, BSU's Jordan George added two first-period goals, before sophomore F Andrew Pickering scored at 16:04 of the same frame for the 2-1 final ... on March 3, the Seawolves struck first and led 3-1 at the start of the second before allowing BSU to tie the game, 4-4 after 40 minutes of play ... the Beavers then added the game-winning goal at 2:56 of the third ... UAA's goals were scored by F Jordan Kwas, freshmen Sam Mellor and Corbin Karl and senior F Jade Portwood.

WARNER PROMOTED: Head bench boss Dave Shyiak announced Nov. 19 that senior defenseman Scott Warner has been named an assistant captain for the remainder of the season ... Warner, a local of Anchorage, will join junior Matt Bailey as an assistant captain, while senior Chris Crowell dresses as this season's captain.

PICKERING RETIRING FROM HOCKEY: Junior F Andrew Pickering (Vancouver, B.C.) retired from hockey due to multiple concussions and other health concerns, announced on Nov. 5 ... head bench boss Dave Shyiak said the UAA program will continue to help Pickering as he moves forward.

LAST TIME OUT: The Seawolves hosted No. 2 Minnesota for their WCHA home openers, Nov. 9-10 ... the Golden Gophers shutout UAA on Friday, 4-0, before the teams tied on Saturday, 2-2 ... on Friday, Minnesota scored four power-play goals on six chances, giving UAA its first WCHA loss at home ... on Saturday, the Gophers scored first in the opening stanza before senior F Jordan Kwas tied the game at 12:21 with UAA second PPG of the season ... following a scoreless second period, the Seawolves took their first lead of the weekend with an even-strength tally by senior F Alex Gellert, before Erik Haula knotted the game with his third goal of the series.

SEAWOLF BITES: On Nov. 9, Minnesota handed UAA its second shutout of the season - other shutout was on Oct. 19 to then-No. 2 North Dakota at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush (5-0) ... UAA allowed Minnesota a season-high four power-play tallies ... on Nov. 10, UAA scored its second power-play goal of the season and its first even-strength tally of the weekend ... the Gophers now lead the all-time series record, 55-19-8 ... following Saturday night, UAA has tied two of the last three games and is now 0-3-2 against ranked opponents this season ... UAA is currently in a four-game winless streak, looking for its first win since Oct. 20 against Merrimack (6-3) and its first WCHA win ... the Seawolves have two WCHA points in four league series, good for a three-way tie for No. 10 in the conference standings ... UAA is fairing much better on Saturday nights, going undefeated at 1-0-3, compared to 1-3-0 on Friday nights ... the Seawolves are 2-0-1 when scoring first ... even with two bye weekends in three week, the Seawolves are tied for No. 2 in the country with four shorthanded goals with Bentley - Union has five SHG ... the Seawolves completed the month of October with a 2-2-2 (.500) record - their best winning percentage in the opening month since the 2008-09 slate when they went 4-2-1 (.642) ... UAA earned its first WCHA point of the season with the 3-3 tie on Oct. 27 - UAA's first non-loss at UND since Nov. 14, 2008 ... at the completion of four of the six non-conference games this season, UAA is 2-1-1 ... Dave Shyiak is 18-8-6 (.656) all-time in the first four games ... the Seawolves claimed their second straight Kendall Hockey Classic title on Oct. 12-13 ... UAA is now, 22-14-10 overall in the Classic ... UAA is now 8-3-5 in under Shyiak in the Kendall Hockey Classic, with titles in 2006, 2011 and 2012 ... the Seawolves are now 6-0-2 in season-openers under Shyiak ... UAA hasn't lost a season-opener since 2000 against Michigan State (5-4); since then, UAA has gone 9-0-3 in season-openers ... the shutout on Oct. 12 was only the second for UAA in a season-opener in 35 years of program history, along with a 4-0 win against Niagara in the 1999 Classic.

PLAYER NOTES: Individually, senior F Alex Gellert saw his career-high-tying three-game point streak come to an end Nov. 9 before scoring an even-strength tally on Nov. 10... Gellert is 3-1-4 in the last five games and has already bypassed his goal total from any of his previous seasons ... Gellert leads UAA skaters with six points and is tied with sophomore F Scott Allen with four goals on the year ... Allen, who was named to the Kendall Hockey Classic all-tournament team, bypassed his goal total from his rookie campaign with his team-leading fourth goal of the season on Oct. 27 ... scoring UAA's other tally against the Gophers was senior F Jordan Kwas on the power-play - UAA's second PPG of the season ... Kwas currently has three goals, good for third best on the team ... dressing in net for UAA on Nov. 10 was Rob Gunderson ... Gunderson (31 saves) earned the tie to stay undefeated on the season at 1-0-3 ... picking up his first collegiate shorthanded goal was senior F Tyler Currier on Oct. 27... looking for their first collegiate points are Chris Williams, Bobby Murphy and Hayden Trupp.

INJURY UPDATE: Junior D Quinn Sproule sat at a third straight game on Nov. 10 due to a separated shoulder, but is expected to return to the lineup this weekend ... seniors F Chris Crowell and F Alex Gellert were injured against Minnesota, but had time to heal in the bye week and are cleared to play against BSU.

2012-13 SEAWOLF CAPTAINS: For the first time since the 2009-10 season, UAA has a lone captain in senior F Chris Crowell, while junior F Matt Bailey and senior D Scott Warner dress as the assistant captains.
