JAMBOREE CHAMPS: The Seawolves opened with a pair of 10-point wins against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference clubs Colorado Christian (66-56) and Colorado State-Pueblo (85-75) in the 18th annual AT&T Jamboree, Nov. 9-10 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex … in the first game, Jr. G Kyle Fossman scored 20 points (4-8 FG, 10-12 FT), along with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, while Fr. PG Jalen Little came off the bench with 12 points (2-3 3FG, 4-4 FT), 6 rebounds and 2 assists in his debut against CCU … Sr. F Abebe Demissie scored 11 points and So. G Teancum Stafford also reached double figures with 10 points … on Saturday, Stafford scored 23 points (7-13 FG, 3-5 3FG, 6-7 FT), grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists, along with the Jamobree’s Most Outstanding Player honors … Fossman went all 40 minutes and finished with 17 points (4-8 3FG, 5-6 FT), 2 assists, 2 steals and no turnovers, while Sr. C Liam Gibcus tallied 10 points (5-8 FG), 9 rebounds, 2 assists and no turnovers despite playing just 17 minutes because of foul trouble … all five Seawolves scored in double figures, with Jr. G Colton Lauwers tallying 13 points (7-9 FT), and Jr. G Mike MacKelvie stuffing the stat sheet with 12 points (5-11 FG), 8 rebounds and 5 assists … Fossman and Gibcus — UAA’s two most experienced players — both made the All-Jamboree Team … UAA is now 38-7 all-time in the Jamboree, having now won 14 in a row since a 2004 loss to Grand Canyon.
TEAM NOTES: Saturday’s 85-75 win over CSU-Pueblo marked UAA’s 17th straight victory when scoring 80 points or more, dating to start of the 2011-12 season … the Seawolves have now won 19 of their last 20 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex, with the only loss coming to eventual NCAA champ Western Washington.
PLAYER NOTES: A Preseason All-GNAC selection, Jr. G Kyle Fossman has responded to expectations with 2-game averages of 18.5 ppg (.429 3FG, .833 FT), 4.0 rpg, 2.0 apg and 2.0 spg … the Haines product has also committed just 3 turnovers while missing only one minute, including no turnovers in 40 minutes of action against Colorado Christian … Fossman has already gone 15 of 18 at the charity stripe this season, more than halfway to matching last year’s production (27 of 31) … on UAA’s career lists, Fossman currently ranks 2nd in 3FG% (.464) and 24th in 3FGs made (85) ... now with the minimum 100 field goals made, Sr. C Liam Gibcus premieres this week at No. 12 on UAA’s a career FG% list at .547 … the team’s only 4th-year senior also stands 22nd in games played (85) and tied for 14th in games won (63) … with 10 points and 9 rebounds against CSU-Pueblo, the Aussie came just one rebounds shy of his second career double-double … junior-college transfers Teancum Stafford (16.5 ppg), Stephan Heard (7.5 ppg) and Mike MacKelvie (6.0 ppg) have accounted for 40 percent of the team’s scoring thus far … Heard, a 6-7 forward from Long Beach City College, is the team’s 3rd-leading scorer despite playing just 15.0 minutes per game, going 5 of 5 from the field and 5 of 6 at the free-throw line thus far.

THE OSBORNE FILE: Ninth-year head coach Rusty Osborne (159-84) has now led the Seawolves to seven straight winning seasons, four NCAA Tournaments and a trip to the 2008 NCAA D-II Semifinals in his tenure at the helm … Osborne captured his first career GNAC and NABC West District coach-of-the-year awards in 2008 after becoming the second coach to lead UAA to three consecutive NCAA berths (2006-08), and last year his Seawolves posted a 24-10 record to equal the 2nd-most victories in program history; Osborne’s 2007-08 club holds that record with a 29-6 mark … before taking over the head job in 2004-05, the Texas native previously served 13 seasons (1991-04) as a UAA assistant, including 11 years as the top assistant … the Seawolves have won over 60 percent of their games with Osborne on the staff, claiming four conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Osborne is assisted by Cameron Turner (2nd season), graduate assistant Tim Mollerstrom (1st season), and volunteer coaches Brad Lauwers (2nd season) and Carl Arts (1st season).
