SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS: The Golden Gophers enter the series with UAA leading the WCHA with a No. 2 national ranking in both the Div. I Men's College Hockey Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Div. I Men's College Hockey Poll ... the Gophers are heading to UAA after a WCHA split with Minnesota State ... Minnesota won, 3-2 on Nov. 2, before MSU responded on Nov. 3 with a 5-3 upset ... the Gophers also split with Michigan Tech (3-5, 3-2), Oct. 19-20 ... Minnesota is led offensively by junior F Erik Haula (4-4-8), junior F Nate Condon (2-5-7) and sophomore F Kyle Rau (2-5-7) ... freshman G Adam Wilcox has dressed in six games for Minnesota, posting a .917 sv%, 1.81 gaa and a 4-1-0 record.

The Seawolves' 2011-12 season came to an end after Minnesota swept UAA, 2-1, 7-3, in the WCHA First Round Playoffs on March 10-11 at Mariucci Arena ... on March 10, the Golden Gophers took a two-goal lead on tallies from Erik Haula, before senior D Brad Gorham netted UAA's lone goal in the final seconds of the middle frame ... on March 11, the Seawolves took a 3-1 lead with a pair of goals by then-sophomore F Matt Bailey and one by then-freshman F Scott Allen ... Minnesota then responded with two more tallies in the second and four in the third for the sweep.

JOPLIN TORNADO RELIEF FUND: UAA is teaming with the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association to raise money for the city of Joplin, Mo. - the host of the 2012 NCAA Div. II Cross Country Championships - which was devastated by an EF-5 Tornado in May of 2011 ... the Seawolf running squads will collect donations at the UAA vs. Minnesota hockey game, Nov. 9 at the Sullivan Arena.

PICKERING RETIRING FROM HOCKEY: Junior F Andrew Pickering (Vancouver, B.C.) retired from hockey due to multiple concussions and other health concerns, announced on Nov. 5 ... head bench boss Dave Shyiak said the UAA program will continue to help Pickering as he moves forward.

LAST TIME OUT: The Seawolves commenced the 2012-13 WCHA regular season with a loss and tie at then-No. 4 North Dakota on Oct. 26-27 ... the Seawolves fell to UND 4-1 on Friday, before tying 3-3 on Saturday ... UAA's lone goal on Friday was netted by senior F Alex Gellert, while sophomore F Scott Allen and seniors Tyler Currier (shorthanded) and Jordan Kwas picked up tallies on Saturday ... on Oct. 27, UAA came back to lead 3-2 before allowing UND to strike with 1:08 left in regulation.

SEAWOLF BITES: The Seawolves completed the month of October with a 2-2-2 (.500) record - their best winning percentage in the opening month since the 2008-09 slate when they went 4-2-1 (.642) ... UAA earned its first WCHA point of the season with the 3-3 tie on Oct. 27 - UAA's first non-loss at UND since Nov. 14, 2008 ... following  a bye weekend on Nov. 2-3, the Seawolves are tied for 11th in the WCHA standings with Minnesota Duluth ... even after a weekend off, the Seawolves are tied for No. 1 in the country with four shorthanded tallies ... Bentley and Union also have four, with UAA and Bentley being the only two without a SHG against ... following a season-high 30 shots on net on Oct. 27, the Seawolves are averaging 21.7 shots per game, up from 20.5 the weekend before ... the Seawolves were tagged for seven penalties on Oct. 26-27 - tied for second fewest in the WCHA standings with UND ... at the completion of four of the six non-conference games this season, UAA is 2-1-1 ... Shyiak is 18-8-6 (.656) all-time in the first four games  ... the Seawolves claimed their second straight Kendall Hockey Classic title on Oct. 12-13 ... UAA is now, 22-14-10 overall in the Classic ... UAA is now 8-3-5 in under Shyiak in the Kendall Hockey Classic, with titles in 2006, 2011 and 2012 ... the Seawolves are now 6-0-2 in season-openers under Shyiak ... UAA hasn't lost a season-opener since 2000 against Michigan State (5-4); since then, UAA has gone 9-0-3 in season-openers ... the shutout on Oct. 12 was only the second for UAA in a season-opener in 35 years of program history, along with a 4-0 win against Niagara in the 1999 Classic.

PLAYER NOTES: Sophomore F Scott Allen bypassed his goal total from his rookie campaign with his team-leading fourth goal of the season on Oct. 27 ... Allen, who also has a shorty on the season and was named to the Kendall Hockey Classic all-tournament team, is tied with senior Alex Gellert and junior Matt Bailey with a team-leading five points apiece ... Gellert (Kelwona, B.C.), who assisted on Allen's tally, is currently enjoying a career-high-tying three-game point streak (2-1-3) ... with the assist, Gellert also ties his point total from a year ago ... also assisting on Allen's tally was rookie D Austin Sevalrud - his first collegiate point ... picking up his first collegiate shorthanded goal was senior F Tyler Currier on Oct. 27 ... junior G Rob Gunderson earned the tie in the net with 30 saves, keeping him undefeated on the season at 1-0-2 ... senior F Jordan Kwas collected his second goal of the season, while Bailey, the Kendall Hockey Classic MVP, was credited with his team-leading fourth helper of the year ... sophomore F Kory Roy posted a career-high two-game point streak against UND ... stopping a career-high-tying 30 shots on Oct. 26 was junior G Chris Kamal ... scoring UAA's lone power-play goal of the season was junior D Quinn Spoule against the Warriors on Oct. 20 ...  looking for their first collegiate points are Chris Williams, Bobby Murphy and Hayden Trupp.

2012-13 SEAWOLF CAPTAINS: For the first time since the 2009-10 season, UAA has a lone captain in senior F Chris Crowell, while junior F Matt Bailey dresses as the assistant captain.
