OH Katelynn Zanders had 17 kills — a UAA season-high for a 3-setter — on .375 hitting as the Seawolves improved to 5-0 all-time against the Clan … Fr. OH Julia Mackey hit a match-high .409 with 12 kills, Jr. MB Jodi Huddleston connected for 8 kills at a .389 pct., and Fr. MB Breanne Sytnyk had a career-high 4 blocks … Sr. S Kimya Jafroudi had 40 assists, 8 digs, 2 kills and 2 aces, and Jr. L Siobhan Johansen made an impressive 24 digs in the win … Saturday’s first-place showdown went to the visitors from Bellingham, however, as UAA suffered its first home loss since Sept. 8, 2011 (vs W. TEAM NOTES: UAA is 8-1 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex this season after having a 16-match home winning streak stopped Oct. 6 against No. 16 Western Washington … the Seawolves have won 33 of their last 36 home matches and are 36-5 at the WFSC since 2009 … UAA has not lost consecutive home matches under head coach Chris Green, who took over in 2008 … UAA is 9-0 when posting a higher hitting pct. and 7-1 when outblocking its opponents … by going the distance against CWU, NNU and UAF, the Seawolves accomplished another program-first by winning three straight home matches by 3-2 scores … the Seawolves lead the GNAC with 16.9 digs per set and rank 2nd in the league in three other statistical categories — kills per set (13.2), assists per set (12.3) and opponent attack pct. ’WOLF NOTES: Reigning GNAC Newcomer of the Year and 2nd-Team all-league Sr. S Kimya Jafroudi currently ranks 2nd in the league and 13th nationally with 11.17 assists per set … she also paces the GNAC with 0.48 aces per set  … with 30 assists in Saturday’s loss to WWU, Jafroudi moved into 8th place on UAA’s career list with 1,533 and needs just 50 more to move into 7th … the Californian is now just fractions of a point — 10.62 to 10.57 — behind former GNAC Player-of-the-Year Calli Scott (2008-09) for No. 1 on UAA’s career assists average record … in September, Jafroudi was the MVP of UAA’s own SpringHill Suites Invitational, pacing a Seawolf offense that hit .241 … Jafroudi’s 6 aces against Dixie State on Sept. 7 were the most for a Seawolf since 2006 and the most for a GNAC player this year … Fr. OH Sarah Johnson has shown off her all-around skills early in her career, currently ranking 11th in the GNAC in kills per set (2.87) and 12th in digs per set (3.23) … the South Anchorage HS product is one of only two GNAC players to be averaging better than 2.80 kps and 3.00 dps … Johnson was named the GNAC Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 10-16 after posting a .308 attack percentage and averages of 3.40 kills and 3.20 digs in wins over CWU and NNU … she leads the Seawolves with five double-doubles, including a 24-kill, 24-dig performance in a 3-2 home win over UAF … with Johnson, Fr. OH Katelynn Zanders (3rd, 3.60 kps) and Fr. OH Julia Mackey (8th, 3.13 kps), the Seawolves have three of the GNAC’s top 11 leaders in kills per set … midway through her rookie campaign, Zanders is 9th on UAA’s single-season list for kills average … Zanders’ 17 kills on .375 hitting Thursday vs. SFU marked her fourth time with double-digit kills and a .300-plus pct. … both Zanders and Mackey have delivered double-digit kills in 11 of 15 matches thus far … Jr. MB Jodi Huddleston leads the Seawolves and ranks 6th in the GNAC with a .314 attack pct. … the Western Nebraska transfer has connected at .300 or better in 9 of 15 matches, while hitting below .200 only twice … So. MB Maureen Sabado, who missed last week’s action with a lower-leg injury, has posted a team-best 1.33 blocks per set and is No. 2 on the squad in attack percentage (.301) … Sabado premiered against Central Washington on Sept. 13 by becoming the first Seawolf in nearly a year to tally 10 total blocks … Jr. L Siobhan Johansen made an impressive 42 digs in just 6 sets last week, vaulting her to 6th in the GNAC and 7th on UAA’s single-season list with 4.48 dps … the Palmer (Colony HS) product is also 10th in the GNAC in aces at 0.30 per set  … Sr. OH/DS Nikkie Viotto ranks in UAA’s career top 20 in five categories — total aces (8th, 108), aces per set (10th, 0.31), total digs (18th, 812), sets played (17th, 352) and matches played (t-19th, 96) … after playing mainly as a serving specialist last year, So. DS Jordan Bush has stepped up her role, playing in all 54 sets and ranking 5th on the team with 2.02 dps.

SPRINGHILL CHAMPS: The Seawolves won the title of their own SpringHill Suites Invitational, Sept. 7-8, winning all four matches to begin the home campaign … UAA dropped only one set in victories over Dixie State, Adelphi and Western New Mexico (twice) as Sr. S Kimya Jafroudi earned tournament Most Outstanding Player honors … Jafroudi led the event with 10.92 assists and 1.00 aces per set, and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Fr. OH Katelynn Zanders (4.00 kps, .286 att%), Fr. OH Julia Mackey (3.31 kps, .274 att%, 2.85 dps) and Fr. OH Sarah Johnson (2.15 kps, 2.77 dps) … Jafroudi paced the 25-20, 25-21, 25-16 sweep of WNMU in the title match with 35 assists, 6 digs and 3 aces, while Mackey accounted for 12 kills on .323 hitting and 9 digs … the title was UAA’s third straight and fifth overall in the tourney’s 16-year history … UAA is now 40-24 all-time in tourney play, winning 11 of its last 12.

SEAWOLVES PICKED 3RD IN POLL: The Seawolves were tabbed for third place in the 2012 GNAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released Aug. 21 … UAA received 70 points in the balloting, narrowly trailing Western Washington and Western Oregon:
