PORTLAND, Ore. - Junior Susan Tanui
was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Red Lion Female Athlete of
the Week for cross country on Monday following her second individual victory in
as many weeks at the University of Hawaii Big Wave Invitational.
Tanui, a local of Eldoret,
Kenya, cruised to the finish line with a time of 18:09 in the 5K race in
Kaneohe, O'ahu, leading the Seawolves to their second consecutive team title.
Tanui also won the Hawaii Pacific Invite on Sept. 1, pacing UAA to its first
win of the 2012 slate.
In addition to Tanui's
accolade, senior All-American Micah Chelimo (Kapkoi, Kenya) received Honorable
Mention for his performance at the Big Wave meet. A recipient of the GNAC
Red Lion Male Athlete of the Week honor on Sept. 3, Chelimo posted a winning-time of
15:43, helping UAA to a perfect score of 15 for the second week in a row.

Baggenstos claimed GNAC Red Lion Male Athlete of the Week award.
The Seawolves will be idle for the next three weekends before concluding the
regular season at the Western Washington Classic on Oct. 6 in Bellingham, Wash.
