PORTLAND, Ore. - Junior Susan Tanui was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Red Lion Female Athlete of the Week for cross country on Monday following her second individual victory in as many weeks at the University of Hawaii Big Wave Invitational.

Tanui, a local of Eldoret, Kenya, cruised to the finish line with a time of 18:09 in the 5K race in Kaneohe, O'ahu, leading the Seawolves to their second consecutive team title. Tanui also won the Hawaii Pacific Invite on Sept. 1, pacing UAA to its first win of the 2012 slate.

In addition to Tanui's accolade, senior All-American Micah Chelimo (Kapkoi, Kenya) received Honorable Mention for his performance at the Big Wave meet. A recipient of the GNAC Red Lion Male Athlete of the Week honor on Sept. 3, Chelimo posted a winning-time of 15:43, helping UAA to a perfect score of 15 for the second week in a row.

Northwest Nazarene's Jess Baggenstos claimed GNAC Red Lion Male Athlete of the Week award.

The Seawolves will be idle for the next three weekends before concluding the regular season at the Western Washington Classic on Oct. 6 in Bellingham, Wash.
