Central is led by 5-10 Jr. MB Erin Smith (2.73 kps, .463 att%, 0.85 bps) and 6-0 Fr. S Catie Fry (9.43 aps, 1.43 dps, 1.03 bps) ... Northwest Nazarene, playing UAA for the finale of its 11 straight on the road, is also coming off a split of its matches last week ... the Crusaders have played California schools exclusively thus far ... the Nampa, Idaho, squad is led by 5-9 Sr. MB Becky Flores (3.62 kps, .387 att%, 0.72 bps and 5-9 So. S Michelle Terpstra (10.25 aps, 1.44 kps, .264 att%, 2.25 dps).

SPRINGHILL CHAMPS: The Seawolves won the title of their own SpringHill Suites Invitational, Sept. 7-8, winning all four matches to begin the home campaign ... UAA dropped only one set in victories over Dixie State, Adelphi and Western New Mexico (twice) as Sr. S Kimya Jafroudi earned tournament Most Outstanding Player honors ... Jafroudi led the event with 10.92 assists and 1.00 aces per set, and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Fr. OH Katelynn Zanders (4.00 kps, .286 att%), Fr. OH Julia Mackey (3.31 kps, .274 att%, 2.85 dps) and Fr. OH Sarah Johnson (2.15 kps, 2.77 dps) ... Jafroudi paced the 25-20, 25-21, 25-16 sweep of WNMU in the title match with 35 assists, 6 digs and 3 aces, while Mackey accounted for 12 kills on .323 hitting and 9 digs ... the title was UAA's third straight and fifth overall in the tournament's 16-year history ... UAA is now 40-24 all-time in tourney play, winning 11 of its last 12.

TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves lead the early Great Northwest Athletic Conference stats in aces per game (2.19), along with ranks of 2nd in digs per set (15.85) and opponent attack pct. (.145), and 3rd in assists (12.22) and kills (13.04) ... UAA ran its home-match win streak to 12 with its SpringHill Suites Invitational sweep and has now won 29 of its last 31 home matches ... overall, the Seawolves are 32-4 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex since 2009 ... the Seawolves are 0-1 this season and 8-19 overall against ranked opponents under head coach Chris Green; prior to Green's arrival in 2008, UAA had lost 32 straight matches to ranked foes.

PLAYER NOTES: Reigning GNAC Newcomer of the Year and 2nd-Team all-league Sr. S Kimya Jafroudi has picked up where she left off, currently ranking 2nd in the league with 11.00 assists per set ... the Californian earned MVP honors as last week's SpringHill Suites Invitational after pacing a Seawolf offense that hit .241 ... she also had 13 aces in 13 sets, including a career-high 6 in Friday's victory over Dixie State ... Jafroudi shares the early GNAC aces lead at 0.59 aps, along with Jr. L Siobhan Johansen ... Johansen, who has taken over full-time duties at libero this season, ranks 7th in the GNAC with 4.07 digs per set ... with Fr. OH Katelynn Zanders (2nd, 4.08 kps) and Fr. OH Julia Mackey (4th, 3.56 kps), the Seawolves have two of the GNAC's top four leaders in kills per set ... fellow Fr. OH Sarah Johnson is the only Seawolf in the league's top 20 in both kills (19th, 2.58) and digs (13th, 2.81) per set ... Jr. MB Jodi Huddleston led the SpringHill Suites Invite with a .393 attack pct., including a team-season-high .643 (9 kills, 0 errors, 14 attacks) in the championship win over WNMU ... a transfer from Western Nebraska CC, Huddleston ranks 6th in the GNAC at .339 overall ... between Zanders, Mackey, Johnson and Fr. MB Breanne Sytnyk, 82 percent of UAA's kills are coming from true freshmen ... add in Huddleston's 51 kills and the Seawolves are getting 97 percent of their kills from newcomers ... the team's only 4th-year senior, OH/DS Nikkie Viotto had played in every set of every match of her Seawolf career before missing last week with an ankle sprain ... playing full-time at outside hitter for the first time last season, Viotto averaged 2.10 kps and 2.74 dps, while leading the GNAC with 0.40 aces per set ... on UAA's career lists Viotto is 8th in aces per set (0.32) and 10th in total aces (105) ... after playing mainly as a serving specialist last year, So. DS Jordan Bush has stepped up her role, playing in all 27 sets and ranking fourth on the team with 2.11 dps.

SEAWOLVES PICKED 3RD IN POLL: The Seawolves were tabbed for third place in the 2012 GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, released Aug. 21 ... UAA received 70 points in the balloting, narrowly trailing Western Washington and Western Oregon:
