WOODLAND, Calif. – Alaska Anchorage junior Sophia Hyderally named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women’s Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday after a pair of impressive outings in California.

The Daphne, Alabama, native produced UAA’s top score on five of her six events to lead the Seawolves to a 191.425 total and third place at the San Jose State quad meet on Friday, followed by a 193.125 total – sixth-best in program history – and second place at the UC Davis tri-meet on Sunday.

In San Jose, she scored 9.85 on floor, helping UAA to its second-best total in program history at 48.975. Hyderally then posted a 9.675 on bars and an MPSF season-best 9.9 on beam in Davis, tying the eighth-best score all-time in the conference and second-best in UAA history. Her effort also helped UAA beat Sacramento State for the first time since 1992, a span of 33 regular season meetings.

This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Hyderally.

The Seawolves are off this week before returning to Anchorage for their home finale Feb. 9 (2 p.m.) against UC Davis at the Alaska Airlines Center.
