ELDORO, COLO. – Alix Wells led the Alaska Anchorage ski team with an 11th place finish (1:53.99) in the women’s slalom at the University of Colorado Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational Friday.
Teammate Li Djurestaal was one spot behind Wells in 12th (1:54.44).
“The weather hasn’t been super cooperative for us this series, but we did get the women’s slalom off,” said head coach Sparky Anderson. “Alix, Georgia, and Li skied well first run and positioned themselves with a chance to make something happen second run. Unfortunately Georgia hooked a gate early and went out. Alix and Li put down solid second runs to put some points on the board. Given that we haven’t quite had the slalom volume we need yet, we look ok. I saw some encouraging signs from our women today.”
The men’s slalom race was postponed due to bad weather.
The CU Invite continues with the Nordic races Saturday and Sunday in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
