PORTLAND, Ore. – Alaska Anchorage senior Shelby Cloninger was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the 8th-ranked Seawolves to home victories over rivals Alaska Fairbanks and Montana State Billings.

The 6-foot forward from Kamiah, Idaho, led UAA in scoring and rebounding both nights as the Seawolves (20-2, 13-1) stayed unbeaten in GNAC home games with a 63-46 win over UAF and a 73-63 win over regionally ranked MSUB. She averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game, shooting 12 of 23 (.522) from the field, 5 of 7 on three-pointers and 7 of 8 at the free throw line. Against Billings, the former North Idaho College transfer had her second double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, including the eventual game-clinching jumper that put UAA up 68-63 with 1:06 remaining.

This marks the second Player of the Week honor for Cloninger this year, along with the Nov. 20-26 award that followed her Most Outstanding Player performance in the GCI Great Alaska Shootout.

The Seawolves play four of their final six regular-season games on the road – beginning with a Thursday 4:15 p .m. AST clash at Concordia-Portland – before hosting the GNAC Tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center, Mar. 1-3.
