PORTLAND, Ore. (Nov. 28) – Alaska Anchorage senior Keala Kaio-Perez was recognized as one of the top volleyball players among the NCAA Div. II West Region’s 38 programs, landing a spot Tuesday on the D2CCA All-West Region Volleyball Team.

A libero from Waimanalo, Hawaii, Kaio-Perez earned second-team all-region honors after helping the Seawolves to a 19-10 overall record, a tie for third in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and the program’s fifth straight NCAA Tournament berth.

Kaio-Perez leads the GNAC with 0.48 aces per set and ranks second overall in digs with 5.30 per set, including four performances with 30 or more digs. With the honor – voted upon by the region’s sports information directors – Kaio-Perez also becomes the first libero in UAA history to earn all-region accolades.

The Seawolves are in Riverside, Calif., this week for the NCAA Div. II West Regional Championships. UAA begins defense of its regional title at 1:30 p.m. AST Thursday against GNAC champion and nationally 5th-ranked Western Washington.
