PORTLAND, Ore. – Alaska Anchorage senior Shelby Cloninger was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Seawolves to two wins over Division I opponents and the title of the final GCI Great Alaska Shootout.
The 6-foot forward from Kamiah, Idaho (KHS/North Idaho College) was named the Shootout’s Most Outstanding Player after averaging 16 points and seven rebounds per game, shooting 9 of 18 from the field, 7 of 13 from three-point range and 7 of 7 from the free throw line.
Cloninger led all scorers with a career-high 19 points in the Seawolves’ 69-59 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday, connecting on 6 of 8 from the field and 5 of 6 from the arc, to go with seven rebounds. In Thursday’s 59-53 exhibition win over Tulsa, she scored 13 points – including the go-ahead three-pointer with a minute remaining – along with seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.
