ANCHORAGE – The University of Alaska Anchorage has unveiled the times and pairings for the 2017 GCI Great Alaska Shootout, set for Nov. 21-25 at the Alaska Airlines Center. The schedule for the 40th annual college basketball tournament will differ slightly from recent editions, featuring a day between games on the women’s side and an off day for the men’s semifinal qualifiers.
Women’s action will start things on Tuesday, Nov. 21, with Binghamton against Tulsa at 5:30 p.m. and host UAA vs. Maryland Eastern Shore at 8 p.m.
Wednesday will feature all four men’s first-round contests, starting with Cal Poly vs. College of Charleston at noon and Central Michigan vs. Sam Houston State at 2:30 p.m. in the top bracket. The bottom of the men’s bracket will pit Idaho against Santa Clara at 5:30 p.m. and CSU Bakersfield against UAA at 8 p.m.
The women retake the court on Thanksgiving Day for their consolation and championship games at noon and 2:30 p.m., followed by the men’s consolation semifinals at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The men’s semifinals take center stage on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., while Saturday’s placing rounds will tip at noon (7th/8th), 2:30 p.m. (4th/6th), 5:30 p.m. (3rd/5th) and 8 p.m. (championship).
Alaska Standard Time is four hours behind Eastern and one hour behind Pacific.
The GCI Great Alaska Shootout is the longest-running regular-season college basketball tournament in the nation, taking place every Thanksgiving Week in Anchorage since 1978. This will be the fourth tournament held at UAA’s new, 5,000-seat Alaska Airlines Center.
