PORTLAND, Ore. - Alaska Anchorage swept the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Red Lion Player of the Week honors for cross country with senior Micah Chelimo and junior Susan Tanui being recognized Monday.

The Seawolves received the honors following their performance at the Western Washington Classic Invitational on Oct. 6.

A local of Kapkoi, Kenya, Chelimo raced to an individual victory in the 10,000 meter race with a time of 31:12, outdistancing Paul Limpf of Club Northwest by five seconds. The win keeps Chelimo unbeaten on the season and is his eighth career victory.

Tanui, from Eldoret, Kenya, also remained unbeaten individually with a win on Saturday. An All-American in track & field, Tanui posted a time of 21:31 in the 6K, helping the Seawolves to the team title.

The honors are Chelimo's and Tanui's second of the season.

The Seawolves are idle this weekend as they prepare for the upcoming GNAC Championships in Monmouth, Ore., on Oct. 20.
