Rohde signs pro deal with Germany
ANCHORAGE - Former UAA basketball star Taylor Rohde has signed a contract to play for USC Heidleberg, a club in Germany's ProA division.
"We are extremely proud and excited that Taylor will get the opportunity to fulfill his goal of playing professionally," said UAA head coach Rusty Osborne, "He has worked hard and represented Seawolf basketball in a first class manner. Now he is being rewarded for that hard work and I am positive that he will continue to grow and develop as both a player and a person."
A 6-9, 255-pound center, Rohde is coming off an outstanding 2011-12 season that saw him be named National Player of the Year by Division II Bulletin after leading the Seawolves to a 23-7 record and NCAA 2nd Round berth. The Phoenix, Ariz., native was also a consensus All-America First Team pick by NABC, Basketball Times and D-II Bulletin, while being voted Daktronics West Region Player of the Year and GNAC Player of the Year.
USC Heidleberg, which finished 13-15 last season, is located in Heidleberg, a city of about 145,600 located 60 miles south of Frankfurt. The season runs from October through March.
"We are also excited that Taylor's signing now makes it nine years in a row that at least one of our post players have gone on to sign professional contracts, starting with Peter Bullock in 2003-04."
