Harmanen recognized by RMISA

ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage freshman Niko Harmanen was named the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Skiing Association’s men’s Alpine Skier of the Week following his performance at the three Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) Alpine Qualifiers throughout the season.

Harmanen, from Saarenkyla, Finland, used three top-10 positions for the first weekly honor of his career. A redshirt last season, Harmanen finished sixth in the giant slalom on Jan. 6, before finishing fifth in the giant slalom and eighth in the slalom on Feb. 22-23, respectively.
Harmanen and 11 other UAA qualifiers will head to the 2012 NCAA Skiing Championships in Montana on March 7-10.

Men’s Alpine – Niko Harmanen, Alaska Anchorage (6th GS1, 5th GS2, 8th SL)
Women’s Alpine – Katie Hartman, Colorado (1st GS1, 4th GS2, 6th SL)
