Sramek Fifth, Cano Sixth at GNAC Multis

ELLENSBURG, WASH. – David Sramek finished fifth and Elena Cano placed sixth for Alaska Anchorage at the GNAC Multi-Event Championships Tuesday.

Sramek scored a personal-best 6,504 points in the decathlon. He got a strong start on day one running a personal-best 11.38 in the 100 (778 points) and then leaping 22-0.75 (748 points) in the long jump. He closed day one by scoring 775 points after running 50.86 in the 400. Sramek tied his school-record in the pole vault at 15-1 to score 790 points and ran a personal-best of 4:29.51 in the final event the 1,500.

Cano scored a personal-best 4,593 points in the heptathlon. She started the competition with her highest scoring event the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.05 (835 points). She jumped a personal-best 5-1.75 to score 701 points in the high jump. She ran 26.52 in the 200 (752 points) and 2:27.82 in the 800 (720 points).

Yvonne Jeshke finished ninth in the heptathlon with 4,134 points, including 880 points in the 800 with a time of 2:15.88.

The UAA men are currently in fourth place in both the men's and women's team standings. The GNAC Championships continue May 10-11 in Monmouth, Ore.
