G Jahnna Hajdukovich scored a career-high 22 points (8-11 FG) and set the UAA freshman record for three-pointers in a game, knocking down 6 of 8 treys in a 88-43 blowout of the Nanooks ... Sr. C Hannah Wandersee had 18 points (9-17 FG), Jr. PG Yazmeen Goo had 10 points (4-7 FG), 4 assists and 3 steals, and Sr. G Sydni Stallworth collected 10 points (4-6 FG), 3 assists and 2 steals as UAA ran its streak to 24 straight victories over UAF ... on Saturday, Stallworth scored 15 points (6-9 FG) and did not commit a turnover for the straight game as the Seawolves swept the regular-season series from the defending West Region champs with a 72-57 win ... So. UAA has earned its fifth straight 20-win season and the 15th in 42 years of program history ... at 145-13 (.918), the Seawolves have the best winning percentage and the second-most victories and in NCAA Div. II since 2014-15, trailing only Ashland (149-14, .914) in victories ... UAA is a combined 92-7 – including 43-4 on the road – in GNAC regular-season and tournament games over the last five seasons ... the Seawovles have won 26 consecutive GNAC regular-season home contests, posting perfect 10-0 marks the last two seasons ... WONDERFUL WANDERSEE: The 2018-19 GNAC Preseason Player of the Year and a unanimous All-GNAC selection last year, Sr. C Hannah Wandersee has continued to rack up honors throughout the regular season, including all-tournament at the Gator Invitational and Seawolf Hoops Classic, MVP of the DII Coast to Coast Classic, and three GNAC Player of the Week awards (Nov. 19-25, Jan. 7-13, Jan. 28-Feb. 3) ... Wandersee recently became one of just 10 Seawolf players with at least 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds, and one of three with 1,000 pts/500 rebs and 100 blocks ... UAA's leading scorer and rebounder, she is 5th in scoring (14.7 ppg), 19th in rebounding (5.4 rpg), 6th in blocks (1.1 bpg), 4th in FT% (.875) and 17th in FG% (.475) in the GNAC stats ... with recent scoring totals of 20 at Western Oregon, 21 at Concordia-Portland and 28 at Simon Fraser, the Kodiak product now has 10 career 20-plus efforts ... Wandersee owns UAA career top-20 marks in scoring (10th, 1,206), rebounds (13th, 553), blocks (4th, 113), blocks per game (7th, 0.9), FG made (8th, 486), FG% (11th, .508), FT% (3rd, .826), FT made (14th, 213), games played (6th, 125) and victories (2nd, 114); she needs just two more victories to tie former teammate Kiki Robertson (2013-17) atop the wins list, and she is on pace to at least tie Hanna Johansson's (2008-12) record of 133 games played.
GOO STUFF: A unanimous Preseason All-GNAC selection, Jr. PG Yazmeen Goo made her return to the lineup on Jan. 10 after missing 10 games with a hand injury ... playing without a protective cast for the last six games, she has delivered 20 total steals and averaged 10.5 ppg on 57 percent shooting ... a 2017-18 Honorable Mention All-GNAC pick, Goo has multiple steals in 10 of her 12 outings this year, putting her on pace to lead the league (3.4 spg) and rank top 5 nationally with enough games played ... the Bay Area native earned all-tournament honors at the Seawolf Hoops Classic, the Great Alaska Shootout and the NCAA West Regional Championships last year, and she opened 2018-19 with MVP honors at the Gator Invitational ... on UAA's career lists, Goo already ranks in the top 10 in assists (6th, 283), assists per game (9th, 3.9), steals (8th, 180) and steals per game (10th, 2.5).
BEWARE OF T.N.T.: Whether it's her sweet three-point stroke or her solid all-around game, Sr. G Tara (N.) Thompson has been one of the most effective contributors to UAA's run of success, now tied for 3rd in program history with 112 victories ... one of two remaining active players from UAA's 2016 NCAA Runner-Up squad, Thompson ranks 9th in the GNAC and 65th nationally in 3FG% (.377), along with other league ranks of 8th in 3FGs per game (2.1) and 1st in assist-turnover ratio (2.4) ... with a .390 career 3FG%, Thompson ranks 8th in UAA history and top 20 in GNAC history, while her 209 total 3FGs are 3rd on the all-time Seawolf list and just seven shy of former teammate Jessica Madison (216, 2012-16) for the No. 2 spot.
SENIORS STEPPIN' UP: After learning the system as transfers last year, Sr. G Kian McNair (Portland State) and Sr. G Sydni Stallworth (2-time 1st Team NJCAA All-American at Pima CC) are making major impacts in their final season ... a starter in 43 of 52 career games, McNair leads the GNAC and is 5th nationally with 3.4 steals per game, boosted by a record-tying 9-steal game against Simon Fraser and 8 steals against Saint Martin's ... along with multiple steals in 14 straight and 20 of 22 games this season, she also ranks 13th in assists per game (3.1) and 17th in assist-turnover ratio (1.4) in the GNAC ... McNair started the year with Most Outstanding Player honors in the Seawolf Hoops Classic, and she was named all-tourney at the DII Hoops Classic ... meanwhile, Stallworth has provided a big lift both off the bench and in the starting lineup, scoring in double figures nine times – including 23 points against CSU Dominguez Hills – and dishing four-plus assists on nine occasions ... the Tucson, Ariz., native is in the top 15 in the GNAC stats at 10th in assists per game (3.3), 3rd in A/T ratio (2.0), 6th in steals per game (2.2), 3rd in 3FG% (.458) and 19th in FT% (.741) ... Stallworth has not committed a turnover in her last three outings (66 total minutes) and is shooting a blazing 15 of 26 (.576) from three-point range since Jan. 10.
'WOLF BITES: So. F Sala Langi has stepped into a larger role this season and emerged as one of the GNAC's most versatile players, delivering 8.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game ... with multiple assists in 15 games, 7-plus rebounds in five games and double-digit scoring in nine games, Langi has shown equal proficiency as a scorer, passer and rebounder ... one of five Bay Area natives on the roster, she posted a career-high 10 rebounds in the second win over Holy Names, and she delivered a career-high 17-point effort, while dishing four assists without a turnover against MSUB ... the Seawolves have added another scoring threat with Jr. G Safiyyah Yasin, who redshirted in 2017-18 after transfering from Diablo Valley (Calif.) College ... prior to her breakout performances against SFU and WWU in early January, Yasin led UAA with 16 points in her debut against Holy Names, and she delivered a clutch 16 points to help fend off Hawaii Pacific ... along with double-figure scoring efforts in eight of the last 16 games, has Yasin ranks 5th in the GNAC and 59th nationally with 2.4 steals per game, making 34 swipes over the last 11 contests ... So. F/C Tennae Voliva is filling a larger role in her second season, accounting for at least five points in nine games and at least three rebounds in 18 contests ... the former East Anchorage HS star equaled her career-high 7 rebounds for the fourth time against UAF and scored double figures for the first time with 12 points (4-5 FG, 4-6 FT) in the home win over MSUB ... Voliva leads UAA in FG% at .521 (37 of 71) ... UAA got a boost in mid-December and early January with the addition of So. F Cameron Fernandez to the lineup on Dec. 18, following a preseason injury, but Fernandez has missed the last eight games with another injury issue ... the first Seawolf transfer ever from a Pac-12 Conference program, the former Washington State Cougar debuted in Green & Gold with 9 points against Holy Names and a team-high 13 points against Hawaii Hilo, doing all of her damage in just 32 combined minutes.
MASTER OF MAYHEM: Now in his seventh season at UAA and eighth season as a head coach, Ryan McCarthy has ascended to the top of two impressive lists this year, as the NCAA Div. II active leader in career winning percentage (.813) and the all-time winningest coach in UAA women's basketball history ... on Jan. 27, McCarthy passed Linda Bruns (176-142, 1979-91) with his 177th victory to become the Seawolves' career wins leader ... since coming north in 2012, McCarthy has led the Seawolf program to unprecedented heights, capturing four straight GNAC regular-season tournament titles, five straight NCAA Tournament berths, and ascending as high as No. 1 or No. 2 in the national rankings every season from 2014-15 through 2017-18 ... last year, McCarthy earned his second consecutive GNAC Coach of the Year honor and third in the last four seasons, while his three-year reign as WBCA NCAA Div. II West Region Coach of the Year came to an end ... in 2016-17, the Anchorage native led UAA to its third straight top-2 regional seed and its second straight 30-win season (30-2), while recording the first 20-0 league record in GNAC history ... the previous season, McCarthy's crew set an NCAA Div. II record with 38 victories, advancing all the way to the 2016 National Title Game in Indianapolis ... his 2014-15 club claimed what was then the best winning percentage in program history with a 29-2 (.935) mark, sweeping both GNAC titles as well ... McCarthy led UAA to an improvement in overall wins (17, 19, 29, 38) his first four seasons and increased the Seawolves' GNAC victory total in each of his first five campaigns (11, 12, 17, 18, 20) … playing its up-tempo 'Mayhem' style, McCarthy's crews led the nation in steals per game for four straight seasons (2013-14 to 2016-17) ... McCarthy sports head-coaching records of 181-32 (.850) in seven seasons at UAA and 195-45 (.813) in eight seasons overall, having served in an interim capacity at Northwest Nazarene in 2011-12 … McCarthy is assisted by 7th-year associate head coach Shaina Afoa, who was voted by her peers as the 2017-18 WBCA NCAA Div.
