Hockey hosts Ferris State
Alaska Anchorage will host Ferris State this weekend (Feb. 15-16) in a WCHA match-up. Friday night head coach will address fans before the game in the Northeast Lounge of Sullivan Arena. Saturday the team will be holding a Military Appreciation Night with free admission to all military (with ID). The department is continuing to extend free admission to all federal employees who are furloughed until a permanent budget is in place.
Ferris State leads the all-time series with Alaska Anchorage 15-3-2, but the series in Anchorage is tied 3-3-1.
Sophomore Aaron McPheters and freshman Drayson Pears each scored their first career goals in last week’s win at Alaska Fairbanks. McPheters scored the game-winning goal at 18:39 of the second period, and Pears scored an empty-net goal with 58 seconds remaining.
Freshman Drayson Pears and Jeremiah Luedtke each recorded multi-point games in last week’s win. Pears scored one goal and added one assist and Luedtke finished with two assists. Junior Carmine Buono enjoyed a multi-point weekend after recording an assist on Friday and scoring a goal on Saturday.
Freshman Kristian Stead recorded his first career win after making 26 saves Friday.
UAA’s penalty kill unit held UAF 0-for-9 on the weekend. The last power-play goal UAA has given up was against MTU on Jan. 25, a span of 205:22.
Out of the Box
Sophomore Jordan Xavier is the only skater on the team who has not been whistled for a penalty this season.
First Friday Win
Friday’s win on Friday in Fairbanks was the first win for UAA on a Friday. The team’s two prior wins came on a Saturday and a Sunday.
Last Time Out
Alaska Anchorage split last weekend’s series at Alaska Fairbanks in the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup. The Seawolves won game one 4-1 and the Nanooks won game two 2-1.
Alaska Anchorage will make it’s final road trip of the regular season to Michigan Tech Feb. 22-23.
