STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLO. – Sigurd Roenning of Alaska Anchorage won his first collegiate race after finishing 0.6 seconds ahead of Logan Diekmann of Utah in the 10-kilometer classic race at the Colorado Invite Sunday.

Roenning was named the RMISA Men's Nordic Skier of the Week due to today's win and yesterday's runner-up finish in the freestyle race.

JC Schoonmaker and Toomas Kollo each finished in the top-20 placing 16^th (30:22) and 18^th (30:24).

Natalie Hynes led the UAA women placing 12^th (35:01) in the five-classic race.

UAA's other six women all finished in the top-20. Michaela Keller-Miller was 15^th (35:29), Hannah Rudd 16^th (35:47), Anna Darnell 17^th (35:49), Jenna DiFolco 18^th (35:56), Casey Wright 19^th (36:15) and Marte Haakeenstad-Braaten was 20^th (36:23).

“It was another day of really impressive racing from Sigurd,” said head Nordic coach Andrew Kastning. “He pulled a four-man breakaway to an early and slim lead. He slid back into fourth, starting the second lap and from what I saw, conserved his energy until the last 100-meters where he shot through an inside hole on the final turn and powered to victory. On the women's side we had some impressive pack skiing with Natalie doing her best to chase the leaders, and a sweep of 15th-20th. Finishing as a Nordic team in the top half of the RMISA is a great place to start and sharpens our teeth for next week in Bozeman.”

Other finishes for the men included Austin Huneck 29^th (31:44), Marcus Deuling 34^th (33:17), Brandon Herhusky 35^th (33:20) and Tracen Knopp 36^th (33:20).

Utah won the meet with 602 points, followed by Denver (517), Colorado (457.5) and Alaska Anchorage (432).

Alaska Anchorage will compete at the Montana State Invite Jan. 16-19.
