Kelsey third in giant slalom

ELDORA, COLO. – The University of Alaska Anchorage ski team's success continued today in Colorado in the giant slalom at RC Regional Qualifier.

Sky Kelsey's second run was the third fastest of the field (58.57) and led him to a third place finish (1:56.53).

Teammate Tony Naciuk was right behind Kelsey finishing in a time of 1:57.08.

Dominic Unterberger enjoyed a top-25 finish with a 24th place showing (1:59.04).

Li Djurestaal led the women with a 12th place finish (2:04.51).

Georgia Burgess placed 15th (2:04.88), and Kristina Natalenko was 26th (2:06.24).

“We had a long day with significant weather challenges,” said head coach Sparky Anderson. “High winds, snow, low visibility, and rapidly dropping temps. Not surprising to see an Alaskan thrive on that and end up on the podium. It was a great job by Sky. Tony was fantastic as well and right behind. Didrik was sitting in second after the first run and threw down on the second. Unfortunately he got swallowed up in a hole and got bucked. It was a wild day. Our women skied well and continue to push into the top group. The CU invite starts Wednesday, so hopefully this builds a little confidence moving into our first important series of the season.”

The Seawolves will compete in the CU Invite Wednesday.
