ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Freshman Jared Nash scored his first career goal for Alaska Anchorage in a 5-2 loss to Lake Superior State Friday.

“I was happy with the effort and our compete for 60 minutes, disappointing that we didn’t come away with any points,” said head coach Matt Curley. “Regardless, we have an opportunity to get the split and we will give everything we have to try to make that happen tomorrow night.”

The Lakers got out to early lead with a pair of first period goals at 7:23 and 10:55.

Pete Veillette scored an early goal in the second period at 1:19 to push the Laker lead to 3-0.

Nash scored his first career goal at 6:48 of the third period after getting a centering pass from Corey Renwick.

LSSU scored the lone power-play goal of the evening when Bryan Basilico found the back of the net at 11:18.

Tomi Hiekkavirta and Jonah Renouf connected with Jeremiah Luedtke who scored his fourth goal of the season at 16:42 compliments of an extra attacker.

Diego Cuglietta concluded the scoring with an empty-net goal at 18:17.

The Seawolves out-shot the Lakers 31-25. UAA finished 1-for-4 on the man-advantage and LSSU was 1-for-5. 

Kris Carlson made 20 saves in net for Alaska Anchorage. 

Alaska Anchorage and Lake Superior State will conclude the weekend series at Sullivan Arena Saturday.
