MANKATO, MINN. – No. 3 Minnesota State had four different players score in a 4-1 win over Alaska Anchorage Friday.
Jared Spooner gave the Mavericks the early lead with his fifth goal of the season at 7:43 of the first period. Spooner scored five hole on UAA goalie Brody Claeys who partially stopped the shot that trickled past him into the net.
Claeys, who finished with 26 saves, would make the save on a shot by Reggie Lutz, but Alec Vanko scored on the rebound to extend the MSU lead to 2-0 at 3:32 of the second period.
The lead would only last 42 seconds before Nils Rygaard scored his third goal of the season. Tomi Hiekkavirta found Rygaard in front of the net for the tap in. Drake Glover tallied his second assist of the season on the play.
The Mavericks added a pair of goals late in the third.
Josh French scored an empty-net goal at 18:27, and Walker Duehr scored on a low shot with less than 30 seconds remaining.
The UAA penalty kill unit killed off all four MSU powerplays, and the Seawolves were scoreless on both of their chances.
MSU led 30-11 in shots.
Alaska Anchorage and Minnesota State will close out the series Saturday.
