ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Emma Chelimo and Wesley Kirui each claimed the individual titles to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage to a sweep of the team titles over in-state rival the University of Alaska Fairbanks at the New Balance XC Classic Saturday.

The UAA women posted a perfect score of 15 points to UAF who finished with 46 points.

The UAA men also posted a perfect score of 15 points to UAF’s score of 49.

Junior Emma Chelimo covered the six-kilometer course in 21:27. Sophomore Nancy Jeptoo, who was racing for the first time in a Seawolf singlet after transferring from Alderson Broaddus, finished second in 22:01.

The Seawolves final three scoring runners all hail from the state of Alaska. Senior Danielle McCormick from Soldotna finished third (22:12), with a pair of Anchorage natives, Ruth Cvancara (22:38) in fourth, and Grace Gannon in fifth (22:45).

Sophomore Wesley Kirui, a Div. I transfer from Hampton, won the men’s seven-kilometer race in 22:06.

Teammate sophomore Felix Kemboi was two seconds back in second.

Senior Jorge Sanchez was third (23:09) with sophomore Nickson Koech (23:13) and freshman Jacob Moos (23:22) in fourth and fifth to complete the scoring for UAA.

Alexandra Bergholt was the top finisher for the UAF women placing sixth (22:47), and Lukash Platil led the UAF men with a seventh place finish (23:37).

UAA will race at the UNLV Invite in Las Vegas, Nev. Sept. 22nd.
