LAS VEGAS – Jay Beagle became the second University of Alaska Anchorage player to win the Stanley Cup after the Washington Capitals defeated the Vegas 4-3 Thursday.
Mike Peluso (1986-89) became the first UAA player to win the Cup when the New Jersey Devils won in 1995.
Beagle, who played two seasons (2005-07) for the Seawolves, tallied eight points (two goals, six assists) in the playoffs for the Capitals who won the Cup for the first time in franchise history. Beagle appeared in 80 games this season for the Capitals, scoring seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points.
Beagle, a native of Calgary, Alberta, has appeared in 472 games over 10 seasons for the Capitals scoring 51 goals and 65 assists for 116 points.
