Former Seawolf standout Alysha Devine returns to the UAA coaching staff in 2018-19 for her second season as an assistant coach under former mentor Ryan McCarthy.
In her first season on the bench, the Wasilla native was instrumental in helping the Seawolves achieve a 27-5 overall record, a Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season co-title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament ‘Sweet 16.’ Coaching full-time while still persuing her undergraduate degree, she was named in March 2018 to the WBCA’s prestigious Thirty Under 30 list.
Devine was a 4-year letterwinner from 2013-17, earning honorable mention All-GNAC honors her final two seasons, and helping UAA to NCAA Tournament berths every year. In her four seasons, the Seawolves won three GNAC regular-season and tournament titles, reached the 2016 NCAA Div. II National Title Game, and posted a combined record of 116-16.
As a versatile forward, Devine scored 785 career points and finished among the program’s top 20 in games played (121), games started (93), rebounds (487), steals (140) and three-pointers made (65). In addition to earning three consecutive GNAC All-Academic Team awards, Devine won the Most Valuable Player honor at the 2016 NCAA Div. II West Regional Championships.
Prior to her Seawolf career, Devine earned three straight Alaska 4A State titles at Wasilla High School, where she was named the 2013 Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year.
Devine graduated from UAA in May 2018 with magna cum laude honors, earning her bachelor’s in health services.
