GIRDWOOD, Alaska – The Alaska Anchorage ski team concluded a busy day on the slopes Friday, finishing up the Seawolf Invitational and starting the UAA Invitational against Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association members at Alyeska Resort.
In the Seawolf Invitational, UAA amassed 190 points and sit sixth among league schools at the completion of the four Alpine races. The Seawolves, whose most points came from the women's giant slalom (62 points), received 53 points in the men's slalom and 20 in the women's slalom today.
Leading the Seawolf Invite is Montana State with 333 points, while Utah is second with 311 and Denver is third with 283. Colorado (274 pts) sits at No. 4, while New Mexico rounds out the top 5 with 234 points.
UAA's highest finisher in each slalom race were sophomore Tony Naciuk for the men and sophomore Alix Wells for the women. Naciuk finished 10th with a two-run time of one minute, 42.39 seconds, while Wells finished 11th at 1:49.67.
Later in the day, the teams competed in a second round of slalom races as part of the UAA Invitational. The Seawolves combined for 106 points – 55 points for the men and 51 for the women. New Mexico leads the field after two-events scored with 168 points. Denver is second at 159 and Utah is third with 148.
UAA was once again led by Wells in the women's race, finishing 12th at 1:42.32. Additionally, the men's team landed all three scorers in the top 20. Taking UAA's top place was Naciuk again with a time of 1:40.84, good for 11th. This if the fifth time this season that Wells has led the women's team, while it is the third time Naciuk has led the Seawolf men.
Action at Alyeska wraps up tomorrow with the men's and women's giant slalom – part of the UAA Invitational. Both Invites will continue in February with the Nordic races.
