OVERALL: UAA leads 88-61-12 AT UAF: Tied, 39-39-5

NOTES: The Seawolves take on UAF in their first of two WCHA series this season –  the teams met Oct. 8 for a non-conference game that wasn't part of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup – UAF won, 4-1 … this will be the 164th and 165th all-time meeting between the teams … 11 of the last 12 games between the teams have been decided by just one goal ... UAA will look to capture its first Cup title since the 2008-09 season, breaking a seven-year UAF run ... the Seawolves and Nanooks square off with UAF leading the all-time Cup record, 11-8 … after UAA won three straight from 2006-09, UAF captured the Cup title in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 but due to NCAA violations, UAF's Cup titles in 2010, 2011 and 2012 have been vacated … the Governor's Cup, which started during the 1993-94 season, has gone into a shootout to determine the winner on eight occasions – last was 2015, with UAF winning the shootout, 1-0 ... this is the fourth time since 2007-08 that the Governor's Cup is a four-game format … the Cup started as a two-game contest and continued for six seasons before changing to a four-game format for nine seasons … in 2008-09 the Cup reverted back to a two-game format up until 2013-14.

SCOUTING ALASKA FAIRBANKS: The Nanooks entertain the Seawolves following a 7-3 loss at Minnesota State on Dec. 2 and a 5-5 tie with the Mavericks on Dec. 3 ... UAF's last win came Nov. 12 at Alabama Huntsville (3-1) ... UAF also has wins against Lake Superior State (Oct. 29) and MSU (Oct. 22) ... the Nanooks are led by sophomore F Chad Staley (6-5–11), senior F Marcus Basara (5-6–11) and senior F Brandon Morley (1-9–10) ... dressing in 12 games between the posts is sophomore F Jesse Jenks (.887sv%, 3.38gaa, 3-7-1) ... in the overall WCHA stats, UAF ranks 7th for scoring offense (2.56), 9th for scoring defense (3.69), 5th on the power play (17.8%) and 7th on the penalty kill (83.7%) ... the Nanooks are coached by ninth year Dallas Ferguson (66-141-40).

SEAWOLF BITES: The Seawolves enter the weekend with a 2-12-2 record overall and 1-7-2 record in conference play ... the Seawolves collected its second win of the season and first in league play on Dec. 2, defeating Northern Michigan, 5-3 ... UAA furnished a season-high five goals and a season-high-tying three goals in the third period ... additionally, UAA posted a season best 7-7 on the penalty kill ... the win broke a 10-games winless streak ... UAA's other win came Oct. 15 vs. Canisius (1-0) ... on Dec. 3 ... UAA posted a season-high 30 shots on goal, while allowing a season-low 17 shots on target ... UAA is now 1-2-2 in the last five games ... in 16 games, UAA has been shut out three times – first came on Oct. 7 in the season opener vs. then-No. 13 Minnesota, then on Oct. 29 (4-0) at Bemidji State and most recently at Bowling Green on Nov. 23 (3-0) ... UAA has played in four overtime contests – the last came Nov. 24 at BGSU – the teams tied, but the BGSU collected the extra point with the 3-on-3 overtime goal ... UAA is averaging 1.50 goals per game ... the Seawolves are allowing 3.31 goals per game ... UAA is sitting at 83.9% on the penalty kill, stopping 78 of 93 power plays, good for No. 5 in the WCHA overall stats … meanwhile, the Seawolves' man-advantage unit is to 6-for-85 (7.1%).

PLAYER NOTES: Individually, the Seawolves are led by junior captain Matt Anholt ... Anholt has a team-high nine points and five helpers and a team-high-tying four goals ... with a guaranteed 18 games left, Anholt has already matched his rookie season production and needs 23 points to top his sophomore season ... this past weekend, Anholt furnished a goal on Friday and an assist on Saturday ... Anholt's team-high five-game point streak came to an end on Nov. 19 vs. MTU ... Anholt posted 1-4–5 totals from Nov. 4-18 ... picking up a three-point weekend against Northern Michigan was junior F Tad Kozun ... Kozun, who had two assists on Friday and a shorthanded goal on Saturday, is second on the team with seven points ... Kozun is tied with Anholt with a team-high four goals ... Kozun picked up UAA's third shorthanded goal of the season, joining sophomores Mason Mitchell and Nils Rygaard with shorties ... Kozun is also one of four UAA skaters that hasn't been tagged for a penalty this season ... Kozun leads all current UAA skaters with 42 career points and 23 career goals ... leading UAA from the blueline is junior D Jarrett Brown ... Brown registered a goal on Friday – his third of the season – and is tied for third on the team with six points ... Brown's 29 career points rank 34th all-time on the UAA defenseman list ... meanwhile, senior D Chase Van Allen posted a goal and an assist on Friday, giving the Anchorage local 38 career points – good for a tie at No. 26 on the UAA record book ... Van Allen's first goal of the season came on the power play and was the game winner ... picking up a multi-point game on Dec. 2 were sophomores Jeremiah Luedtke (0-2–2) and Jonah Renouf (1-1–2) ... collecting the empty-net goal and first of the season was senior F Connor Wright – UAA's first empty-netter since Anholt on Feb. 20, 2016 vs. Lake Superior State … dressing in 15 games for UAA is junior G Olivier Mantha ... Mantha – a two-time UAA MVP – is 2-10-2, while sporting a .907 save percentage (6th in WCHA overall stats) and a 2.98 (9th) goals-against average ... Mantha's career save percentage of .908 still ranks No. 1 on the all-time UAA list, while his 2.91 gaa ranks No. 3 ... Mantha has played in 76 career games, good for sixth all-time in the UAA record book ... on Nov. 12, Mantha posted a career-high 53 saves for the Seawolves ... his performance ranks tied for No. 3 all-time in the UAA history book with Chad Meyhoff (2/11/89).

NATIONAL POLLS: Leading the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll is Minnesota Duluth for the third straight week ... Denver is still No. 2, while Penn State takes over at No. 3  ... the WCHA has Bemidji State at No. 13, Minnesota State at No. 16, while Michigan Tech (14) received votes ... UAA is currently 0-5-0 against ranked teams this season.
