2013-14 Women's Hoops slate unveiled

ANCHORAGE – University of Alaska Anchorage women's basketball head coach Ryan McCarthy announced his team's 2013-14 schedule on Tuesday.

The Seawolves – coming off a 17-10 campaign – open Nov. 1 with an exhibition game at Div. I foe Kansas State, leading up to their home debut Nov. 9 against Western New Mexico at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex. UAA will play 14 home games next season, with 12 at the WFSC and two Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout contests at Sullivan Arena.

After a mid-November trip to Hawaii to play West Region foes BYU-Hawaii and Chaminade, the Seawolves return home to face UC Riverside and either Georgetown or Nicholls State in the Shootout, Nov. 26-27. The non-league slate concludes Dec. 20-21 with the 5th annual AT&T Hoops Classic, with UAA playing Cameron (Okla.) in the first round and either Brevard (N.C.) or Saint Leo (Fla.). This marks the first year the Classic will be played in a traditional tournament format.

Great Northwest Athletic Conference play opens early, with longtime rivals Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific invading the WFSC Dec. 5 and Dec. 7, respectively.

The rest of the GNAC home slate includes key clashes against Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 1 and instate rival Alaska Fairbanks on Feb. 15, and concludes Feb. 22 when the Seawolves host defending league champ Western Washington on Feb. 22.

The 4th annual GNAC Women's Basketball Tournament returns to Lacey, Wash., Mar. 6-8. The top six teams qualify, with seeds 3-6 meeting in the quarterfinals and the top two seeds receiving byes into the semifinals.

The NCAA Division II West Regionals are set for Mar. 14-17.
