New Shootout logo unveiled

ANCHORAGE – The University of Alaska Anchorage Departments of Athletics has introduced an updated look for one of its longest-running traditions, unveiling a new logo Wednesday for the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.

Designed by The Nerland Agency and commissioned by Carrs/Safeway, the shield-shaped logo features a basketball rising over snow-capped mountains, along with the name of the tournament, its title sponsor, and host institution UAA. With a dynamic yet simple appearance, the new logo reflects the Shootout's standing as both an Alaskan tradition and one of college basketball's most storied competitions.

“Along with our improved fields and growing relationship with CBS Sports Network, we think this new logo reflects the strong brand identity and unique spirit of our one-of-a-kind event,” said UAA athletic director Dr. Steve Cobb. “We'd like to thank The Nerland Agency, which did an incredible job with this project, and offer our continued gratitude to Carrs/Safeway for their generous support.”

“We are thrilled to be such an integral part of the Great Alaska Shootout for so many years, and are excited to see this new logo that celebrates the great partnership we have with the University of Alaska Anchorage,” said Glenn Peterson, Carrs/Safeway Alaska District Manager.

This year's 36th annual Shootout is scheduled for Nov. 26-30 at Anchorage's Sullivan Arena. Along with host Alaska Anchorage, the women's field will include Georgetown, Nicholls State and UC Riverside, while the Seawolf men will host visiting squads from Denver, Green Bay, Harvard, Indiana State, Pepperdine, Texas Christian and Tulsa.
