'Wolves complete Day 1 of Utah Invite

LOVELAND, Colo. – The Alaska Anchorage Alpine ski team sits in sixth place after the completion of Day 1 of the Utah Invitational on Wednesday.

The Seawolves posted 143 points in the men's and women's giant slalom races, leaving them just two shy of fifth-place New Mexico. Host Utah leads the competition with 236 points.

Leading the Seawolf pack was Niko Harmanen in a 10th-place time of one minute, 56.97 seconds, while Andreas Adde completed the two-run race in a time of 1:57.11, good for 13th. James Schindler finished at 2:01.73 to round out the Seawolf men's scorers in 36th place.

Senior Kayla Hoog Fry paced the UAA women in 21st with a combined time of 2:00.71, followed by sophomore Vanessa Berther one position back at 2:00.94, and Taylor Guetschow at 2:02.31 (24th place).

The Seawolves return to action tomorrow with the men's and women's slalom races. The Nordic portion of the event will take place Feb. 8-9 in Soldier Hollow, Utah.
