ANCHORAGE - Alaska Anchorage erupted for two goals in the span of 40 seconds late in the third period to help the Seawolves forge a 3-3 tie with No. 14 Minnesota State in a WCHA game Friday night at the Sullivan Arena.

The tie snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Seawolves, which are now 3-13-5 overall and 1-12-4 in WCHA play. The Mavericks are now 14-8-3 overall and 8-8-1 in league play.

Trailing 3-1 late in regulation, UAA freshman defenseman Blake Leask made a nice move to get past a MSU defender at the blue line and fed freshman center Blake Tatchell who scored on the power play at the 16:49 mark to make it a one-goal game.

Just 40 seconds later at 17:29 of the third, freshman winger and Anchorage local Bobby Murphy scored from a scrum in front of the MSU net to knot things at 3-3. Once again Leask was credited with the assist.

In the overtime frame, UAA goaltender Chris Kamal came up huge, stopping all three MSU shots on goal - including a couple from point-blank range.

The Mavericks' Teddy Blueger scored on his team's first shot of the game just 55 seconds in and MSU forged a 2-0 first period lead when J.P. Lafontaine later scored at the 17:19 mark of the first.

Anchorage native Hayden Trupp made it 2-1 when he squeezed a shot between the pads of MSU goalie Stephon Williams at 3:48 of the second. Daniel Naslund was credited with an assist on the goal.

The Mavericks extended their lead back to two goals at 3-1 when Lafontaine scored his second of the night via the power play at 11:18 of the second.

Five of UAA's six points on the night came from freshmen. The Seawolves outshot the Mavericks, 24-22. Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play. Kamal finished with 19 saves while MSU's Williams had 21.

The overtime affair marked the third straight extra-period game for MSU and it's fourth in five games.

The two teams will meet Saturday at 7:07 p.m. AST in the series-ender.
