ANCHORAGE - Dixie State erased a two-set deficit and scored the last seven points of the match Saturday night to earn a 21-25, 12-25, 27-25, 25-18, 15-13 victory over Adelphi in the third-place match of the SpringHill Suites Invitational volleyball tournament.
The Red Storm (2-2) got 15 kills and 12 digs from outside hitter Shannon Young, who had five of her put-aways in the deciding fifth set.
The Panthers (3-5) were led by 14 kills apiece from Kaitlyn DeStefano and Emily Dorko as the Northeast-10 Conference squad left winless in four matches on their first trip to Anchorage.
After losing the first two sets, Dixie State fought off a match point in the third and took the frame, 27-25, with three straight kills from Pauline VonDinklage. The Pacific West Conference team then pulled away late in the fourth set to send it the distance.
Trailing 13-8 in the fifth, Young delivered kills on three of the next four points, beginning a 7-0 run that would stun the Panthers.
Dixie State libero Brita Jensen led her team with 17 digs.
