SPOKANE, WASH. – Alaska Anchorage junior Micah Chelimo and sophomore Susan Tanui were selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's Athletes of the Week on Monday, following their performance at the Stanford Invite over the weekend.

Chelimo, from Kapkoi, Kenya, broke the league record in the 5,000 meters on April 6 with a time of 13:53.51, winning his section. The previous record was held by former UAA All-American Marko Cheseto at 13:58.85 from 2010.

Chelimo, who now has four-career weekly honors, easily met the NCAA automatic time of 14:00.30 and is currently the fastest in Div. II. Chelimo also earned the same distinction on March 19.

A local of Eldoret, Kenya, Tanui collected her first GNAC record with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 10:15.47 in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, smashing the previous record of 10:35.32. Tanui's time is currently No. 2 in the nation and ranks fourth all-time in Div. II.

Tanui shares the weekly honor with Seattle Pacific's Brittany Aanstad.

To date, five Seawolves have been named GNAC Athletes of the Week. In addition to Tanui and Chelimo's two honors; senior Hallidie Wilt, sophomore Haleigh Lloyd and freshman Cody Parker have each received a weekly accolade this season.

The Seawolves are idle this weekend before competing at the Mt. SAC Relays (April 19-21), Azusa Pacific Invite (April 20) and the Long Beach State Invite (April 21).
