SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Northwest Nazarene is coming off a pair of impressive home victories last week over Simon Fraser (76-72) and Western Washington (75-62), although the Crusaders have dropped their last three GNAC road contests … the Crusaders, from Nampa, Idaho, feature six players who average 7.3 points or more, led by 6-0 Sr. F/C Briaunna King (16.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg, .840 FT) and 5-9 So. G Megan Hingston (15.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.6 spg, .769 FT) … Central Washington has earned its GNAC victories at home against UAF and on the road over MSU Billings, although the Wildcats nearly pulled an upset Saturday before losing 67-64 to Simon Fraser … CWU, from Ellensburg, Wash., is led by 5-9 So. UAA SWAMPS WOLVES, SAINTS:
The Seawolves ran their Wells Fargo Sports Complex winning streak to 17 games with victories over Western Oregon (86-58) on Jan. 19 and Saint Martin's (83-48) on Jan. 21 … in the first game, Jr. PG Sasha King had a career-high 22 points (8-11 FG, 4-5 3FG), 7 assists and 5 steals as UAA extended its program record with a 16th straight win against WOU … Sr. F Kaylie Robison had her 5th double-double of the year with 12 points (5-9 FG) and 11 rebounds, while Sr. C Hanna Johansson scored 14 points (4-5 FG, 6-8 FT) … the Seawolves also got a lift of the bench with Sr. F Kylie Burns and Sr. F Tijera Mathews combining for 16 points (4-6 3FG), 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 steals … on Saturday, Jr. G Haley Holmstead scored 20-plus points for the third time in fives games, tallying 23 on 11-of-16 shooting against SMU … Johansson tied the second-most rebounds of her 118-game career with 14, along with 5 assists, 3 steals and no turnovers, while Robison added 10 points (4-6 FG), 6 rebounds, 4 assists and no turnovers … Fr. G Gritt Ryder produced her best offensive output in a month with 12 points (4-4 FG, 2-2 3FG), and King dished a career-high 7 assists for the fourth time in the last five games, helping UAA to its sixth straight home win over SMU.

LAST TIME VS NNU/CWU: The Seawolves got strong road challenges but hung on for a 78-60 win over CWU on Dec. 29 and a 79-71 squeaker against NNU on Dec. 31 … in the first game, Sr. C Hanna Johansson had 23 points (9-13 FG, 5-6 FT), 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks, while Jr. G Haley Holmstead added 11 points (5-7 FG) and 4 assists as UAA beat CWU despite getting outrebounded, 37-34, for the only time this season … Sr. F Kaylie Robison (5-7 FG) and Jr. F Alysa Horn (3-6 3FG) added 11 points apiece … on New Year's Eve in Nampa, Johansson had 21 points on school-record 8-of-8 shooting, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks on her way to GNAC Player-of-the-Week honors … Holmstead added 17 points and 4 steals, and Horn finished with 10 points, including the clinching three-pointer with 55 seconds remaining.

TEAM NOTES: UAA's Wells Fargo Sports Complex win streak stands at 17 after beating Saint Martin's on Saturday … UAA leads the GNAC in 13 of 21 team statistical categories, including scoring offense (81.1), scoring defense (55.5), rebound margin (+12.8), assists per game (19.5) and steals per game (12.7) … the Seawolves have outrebounded their opponents in 18 of 20 games thus far … the Seawolves outscored their eight Div. II non-conference opponents by an average of 42.0 ppg … in addition to tying the mark for fewest points allowed against a D-II opponent, the Seawolves broke their previous marks for points allowed in a road game and a GNAC game (both in a 70-35 win at Central Washington, 2/26/09) with their 78-29 win at UAF on Dec. 3 … the losses to D-I foes Miami and Central Michigan in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout were UAA's first back-to-back defeats since Feb. 19 & 21, 2009 at Seattle Pacific and Northwest Nazarene and were the first consecutive home losses in the Tim Moser era … UAA still has not lost two straight on its primary home court at the WFSC since Jan. 19 & 21, 2006 against Saint Martin's and Seattle University … in 182 games under Moser, the Seawolves have allowed .500-plus FG shooting just nine times, including seven times in 93 GNAC contests.

NATIONAL STATS: The Seawolves rank in the top 10 of the NCAA Div. II statistics in eight different team categories — 1st in scoring margin (+25.6), 2nd in assists per game (19.5), 3rd in rebound margin (+12.9), 4th in scoring offense (81.1 ppg), 6th in both FG% (.463) and FG% defense (.331), and 9th in 3FG% (.375) and 10th in assist-turnover ratio (1.12) … UAA is also 18th in steals (12.7 spg), 24th in turnover margin (+5.3) and 25th in scoring defense (55.5 ppg) …  individually, Sr. F Hanna Johansson ranks 20th in FG% (.555), 31st with seven double-doubles, and 67th in rebounds per game (8.9) … Jr. G Haley Holmstead is 31st in FG% (.527), Jr. G Sasha King is 16th in assist-turnover ratio (2.08) and 55th in assists (4.3 apg), while Fr. 'WOLF BITES: A Preseason All-America pick by Women's Division II Bulletin, Sr. F/C Hanna Johansson will hit another milestone with UAA's next win, becoming just the second Seawolf to win 100 career games … the team's only 4th-year senior also ranks among the program's elite in points (7th, 1,175), rebounds (5th, 683), steals (6th, 173), blocks (9th, 57), FG made (7th, 445), FT made (7th, 285), games played (3rd, 118) and games started (8th, 84) … the Swede has scored in double digits in 43 of the last 51 games and owns 13 career double-doubles — 12th on UAA's all-time list … in the current GNAC stats, Johansson is the only player in the top 10 in scoring (10th, 14.1 ppg), rebounding (4th, 8.9 rpg), FG% (6th, .555) and assists 9th in assists (3.1 apg) … in league games only, Johansson ranks 4th in scoring (16.2 ppg) and 3rd in rebounding (10.0 rpg) … a 1st Team All-GNAC and All-West Region selection as a junior last year, Johansson garnered all-tournament honors at both the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout and the AT&T Hoops Classic …Sr. F/C Kaylie Robison has emerged as a force in her second season at UAA, averaging 9.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, while shooting a GNAC-best .584 from the field … after shooting 9-of-15 in last week's victories, Robison's shooting pct. in GNAC games actually dipped to .660 (33 of 50) … Robison also ranks 7th in the league overall stats in rebounding, 2nd in offensive rebounding (3.9 orpg), 7th in blocks (0.7 bpg) and 17th in steals (1.5 spg) … on UAA's single-season lists, her FG% currently ranks No. 2, while her .528 career FG% ranks 4th … Robison joined Johansson with all-tourney honors at the Shootout after back-to-back double-doubles against UAA's D-I foes … another Utah native, Jr. G  Haley Holmstead has started her Seawolf career with a bang, topping 25 points for the second time thus far with her 27-point showing against SPU … the 2-time JC All-American at Salt Lake Community College leads UAA and ranks 8th in the GNAC with 15.4 ppg … Holmstead also has a pair of GNAC Player of the Week awards already to her credit … with Holmstead (8th, .538), Johansson and Robison, the Seawolves own three of the top eight individual FG percentages in the GNAC … Jr. F Alysa Horn, a 2nd Team All-GNAC selection last year, has continued to put up solid numbers in her '6th-Woman' role this year, ranking 3rd on the team in both scoring (10.0 ppg) and rebounding (4.8 rpg) … Horn ranks 9th on UAA's career list for 3FGs per game (1.1), 14th in 3FG% (.335) and 13th in 3FGs made (71) … in GNAC games only, Horn leads the league with a .950 FT% (19 of 20), and ranks 20th with 11.3 ppg … with Jr. Sasha King and Fr. Gritt Ryder, the Seawolves have a dual-threat option at the point-guard position, with the duo combining for 11.9 points, 7.2 assists and 3.1 steals per game … with a career-high-tying 7 assists in four of the last five games, King now holds GNAC ranks of 3rd in both assists (4.3 apg) and assist-turnover ratio (2.1), along with 2nd in 3FG% (.435) and 5th in steals (2.1 spg) … in GNAC-only games, she leads the league with 5.3 apg and a 3.0-to-1 asst.-TO ratio … one of four international players on the roster, Ryder ranks 8th in the GNAC with 3.2 assists per game and 5th in assist-turnover ratio (1.5) … Sr. F Tijera Mathews had a career-high 6 steals in UAA's win over Western Oregon last week and now is tied with Robison for 17th in the GNAC stats with 1.5 spg … Mathews has committed just four turnovers in the last six games (127 minutes played) as well, while dishing 5 assists against SPU and 4 against WOU … along with Horn and Johansson, Mathews is one of only three Seawolves to find the scoring column in all 16 games this season … So. MOSER MAKES HIS MARK: In his sixth season as UAA's head coach, Tim Moser holds a 152-30 record and has the highest winning percentage (.835) among active Division II coaches with at least five seasons ... in 2008-09 Moser was honored for the second time in three seasons as the GNAC Coach of the Year, while also garnering his first WBCA West Region Coach-of-the-Year award … since arriving at UAA in 2006, the Colorado native has led the Seawolves to the 4th-most victories in women's D-II basketball … under Moser, UAA is 92-7 at home (83-4 WFSC, 9-3 Sullivan Arena); 72-10 in non-conference games (including Shootout, NCAAs & GNAC tourney); 75-18 in GNAC games; 50-4 vs Div. II non-conference opponents in the regular season; and 9-3 against Div. I teams … in NCAA play, Moser's Seawolf teams have gone 11-5, including consecutive Final 4 runs in 2008 and 2009 … Moser is assisted by associate head coach Rebecca Alvidrez (6th season), and former Seawolf guards Tamar Gruwell (grad. asst., 2nd season), Elisha Harris (volunteer asst., 2nd season) and Mari Riser  (volunteer asst., 2nd season).

INJURY REPORT: Jr. G Bruna Deichmann suffered a leg injury against Northwest Nazarene on Dec. 31 and is expected to miss 3-to-6 weeks.

GNAC FAVORITES: UAA was an near-unanimous pick to win the league in the 2011-12 Great Northwest Athletic Conference's women's basketball preseason coaches' poll, released Oct. 11 … the Seawolves, who received nine of 10 first-place votes, were tabbed to finish ahead Seattle Pacific … under head coach Tim Moser, the Seawolves have finished no worse than third in the GNAC in the past five years, including a co-title in 2008-09 and a runner-up regular-season showing last year.
