ANCHORAGE - Local runners David Kiplagat and Colleen Miller-Bolling captured the marathon titles in Saturday's 38th annual Mayor's Marathon & Half Marathon, presented by ConocoPhillips.

Kiplagat, a former All-America runner at the University of Alaska Anchorage and current graduate assistant coach with the Seawolves, crossed the finish line at West High School in 2 hours, 30 minutes, 52 seconds, beating runner-up Brian Cooke (2:46:50) by nearly 16 minutes.

Meanwhile, Miller-Bolling posted a winning women's marathon time of 3:17:00 to earn her second victory of the summer. She also posted a victory in the 10-K Salmon Run on May 7.

As the top Alaskans, Kiplagat and Miller-Bolling each earned a pair of round-trip tickets on Alaska Airlines.

In the half marathon, New Carlisle, Ohio, native Nick Petro edged Anchorage's Jacob Kirk by one second at the finish line to capture the men's title in 1:14:52, while a pair of UAA runners placed 1-2 in the women's race. Emma Bohman, who recently completed her cross country/track career with the Seawolves, topped former teammate Hallidie Wilt by 64 seconds, completing the 13.1-mile course in 1:25:56. Bohman hails from Palmer, while Wilt comes from Unalaska.

Other winners Saturday's included Ed Aramayo of Baltimore, Md. (30:09) and Monica Ross of Anchorage (34:09) in the 5.6-miler, and Chase Liland (12:43) and Brooke Liland, both of Anchorage, in the 1.7-mile youth cup.

The Mayor's Marathon and Half-Marathon is organized by the University of Alaska Anchorage Department of Athletics and the Municipality of Anchorage.

Nearly 4,400 runners participated in this year's event, representing 49 states and the District of Columbia.
