Anderson announces 2012 skiing schedule

ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage head coach Sparky Anderson announced the 2012 skiing slate today, ones that includes two home meets in the month of February.

The schedule is split nicely into thirds, with the first third of the season over two weekends in Colorado, the middle third with back-to-back meets in Alaska and the final third with Montana State hosting both post season events.

Action commences with the first of two RMISA Alpine Qualifiers on Jan. 6 with the giant slalom. The Alpine team will compete in the second qualifier on Feb. 23 with the slalom.
UAA will compete in four regular-season meets, with the first at the annual Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Invitational on Jan. 7-14. The Alpine portion will be contested on Jan. 7-8 in Eldora, Colo., while the Nordic races will be held on Jan. 13-14 in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

The Denver Invite will take place from Jan. 14-21 in Winter Park, Colo., with the Alpine races (Jan. 14-15) and in Granby, Colo., with the Nordic events (Jan. 20-21).

The Seawolves will then return home to host the Alaska Anchorage Invite on Feb. 4-10 and the Seawolf Invite on Feb. 9-11. The UAA Invite will get underway with the Nordic events at Kincaid Park on Feb. 4 and Feb. 6, followed by the Alpine races in Girdwood on Feb. 8 and Feb. 10.

The last of the regular season, the Seawolf Invite will start on Feb. 9 with the freestyle and giant slalom races, followed by the classic on Feb. 10 and the slalom on Feb. 11.

The postseason will start with the RMISA Championships, which also doubles as the NCAA Western Regional, on Feb. 24-25 in Bozeman and Big Sky, Mont. Montana State will then host the NCAA Championships on March 7-10.
