NEW ORLEANS – Alaska Anchorage junior Alfred Kangogo was named the 2011 NCAA Div. II West Region Male Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Friday.
Sixteen male student-athletes earned awards as a track or field Athlete of the Year while 16 USTFCCCA members earned plaudits as a coach or assistant coach of a men's team.

He also finished seventh in the 800 meters, and ran on the school's conference champion 4x400-meter relay.
Kangogo joins head coach Michael Friess, assistant coach T.J. Garlatz and then-junior David Registe, who have each received West Region honors.
Combined with Kangogo, nine Seawolves will compete at the 2011 NCAA Div. II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 26-28 in Turlock, Calif.
