'Wolves land 11 on GNAC all-academic team

SPOKANE, Wash. –  Eleven Alaska Anchorage Seawolves were among a total of  146 student-athletes – 92 women and 54 men -  that were named to the 2011 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Track & Field Academic all-star team on Wednesday.

Leading the Seawolf pack with her third academic honor was senior Ardrienna Everett (Palmer, Colony HS). Everett, who was one of 20 GNAC athletes to earn the accolade for a third consecutive season, recorded a 3.41 overall GPA as an English major.

Juniors Alfred Kangogo and Miriam Kipng'eno, both from Eldoret, Kenya, claimed their second academic awards of their careers. Kangogo, a nursing and nutrition major registered a 3.40 GPA, while Kipng'eno posted a 3.47 GPA in the same field.

Meanwhile, claiming their first honor were juniors Thomas Hill (3.24, physical education), Shoshana Keegan (3.32, early childhood education) and
Shaun Ward (3.46, management and marketing) and sophomores Micah Chelimo (3.51, engineering), Ethan Hewitt (3.21, undeclared), Katie Krehlik (3.60, early childhood education), Ruth Keino (3.52, early childhood education) and Brad Truax (3.56, economics).

To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.  They must also qualify to compete in either the GNAC Indoor or Outdoor Track and Field championship meet.
