Women finalize 2010-11 roster

ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage women's basketball coach Tim Moser announced the final updates to his team's 2010-11 roster on Tuesday with the addition of freshman Elizabeth Downs and junior-college transfers Tanee' Denson-Griffin and Sasha King.

Denson-Griffin, a 5-9 guard, comes to the Seawolves following two standout seasons at her hometown San Bernardino (Calif.) Valley College. As a sophomore in 2009-10, she earned All-Foothill Conference honors after helping her team to a 25-6 record and the league title.

King, a 5-6 point guard, helped Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College to a 60-10 overall record in the last two seasons. As a sophomore last year, the Norman, Okla., native averaged 5.5 points, 4.2 assists, 1.7 steals and shot 79 percent from the free-throw line.

“Tanee' has the ability to create her own shot and her athleticism will really make her a factor in our league,” said Moser, who begins his fifth season at UAA this fall with a 108-20 record. “She is a lightning-quick guard who shoots well, makes good decisions, and comes from a winning program.”

Downs, a 6-0 guard, comes to UAA with limited competitive experience, playing her prep career at Auburn (Wash.) Adventist Academy.

“Elizabeth was a hidden gem in high school, and we know that she is especially skilled as a long-range shooter. She comes from a great basketball family as her brother Micah was a starter recently at Gonzaga,” Moser said.
