#10 Metro outlasts Seawolf spikers

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. – McKenzie Moss notched 16 kills but it wasn't quite enough for the 24th-ranked Alaska Anchorage volleyball team Friday night as the Seawolves lost their second 5-set match of the day at the Phoenix Inn GNAC Conference Challenge, falling to 10th-ranked Metro State.

The Seawolves (2-2) also got 13 kills from Jackie Matthisen and 11 kills from Marie Borowikow, however Metro State (1-1) received a match-high 22 kills from Lisa Jones to outlast UAA, 32-34, 25-14, 25-21, 23-25, 15-10.

UAA captured a wild first frame when Moss ripped a kill to make it 33-32 and the Roadrunners committed an attack error, ending the longest set played by the Seawolves since college volleyball changed to 25-point sets in 2008.

Trailing 23-22 in the fourth set, Borowikow and Matthisen registered back-to-back kills and Metro's Julie Causseaux committed an attack error to send the match the distance.

UAA fell short in the final frame, however, as the Roadrunners recorded a .438 attack percentage to secure the win.

Earlier Friday, the Seawolves lost to 8th-ranked UC San Diego in the fifth set by a 15-12 score.

The Seawolves complete play at the Challenge on Saturday when they face 2nd-ranked Cal State-San Bernardino at 9 a.m. ADT, followed by a 4 p.m. matchup with Humboldt State.
