Adde skis to national title at NCAAs

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - Freshman Andreas Adde skied to Alaska Anchorage's first national title in the slalom since 1997 at the 2010 NCAA Skiing Championships, while the Seawolves remained in seventh place at Howelsen Hill Ski Area on Friday evening.

Following the six events over the past three days, UAA has registered 361 points. Two-time defending champion Denver (589.5) leads the 22-team field, while New Mexico (535) moved into second and host Colorado (504) dropped to third. Utah (472), Vermont (423.5) and Dartmouth (413) sit ahead of UAA in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

Adde raced to victory with a two-run time of 1 minute, 14.91 seconds. Adde recorded the fastest first-run of the night at 36.36 seconds, before posting the fourth fastest time in the second run (38.55). Adde also received an All-America honor for his ninth-place finish in the giant slalom on Wednesday.

The rookie became just UAA's third national Alpine champion ever - joining Aurore de Moulmont, who won the women's giant slalom in 2002 and Izidor Jermon, who won the slalom in 1997. The last Seawolf to win a NCAA title was Mandy Kaempf in 2005, when she won the freestyle and classical races.

A native of Osteras, Norway, Adde help the men's Alpine team to seventh place in the slalom with 64 points. Making up the other half of the Seawolf team was sophomore Halfdan Falkum-Hansen in 26th place. Despite posting the second-best for the second run (38.28), Falkum-Hansen finished the day with a total time of 1:23.21.

On the women's side, the Seawolf pack was led freshmen Petra Gantnerova. Gantnerova completed the women's slalom in 12th place with a time of 1:22.54. The Slovakian helped the Seawolves to sixth place with 64 points.
