Adde, Parker earn All-America honors at NCAAs

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - Freshman Andreas Adde and sophomore Alex Parker earned Second Team All-America honors, helping lead Alaska Anchorage to seventh in the overall team standings on Day 1 of the 2010 NCAA Ski Championships here today on Mt. Werner.

After the conclusion of the giant slalom, the Seawolves have registered 111 points. Denver leads the 22-team field with 239 points, while Utah (196.5) is second and Vermont (178.5) wraps up the top three. New Mexico (173) finished the day in fourth, followed by Dartmouth (148) and host Colorado (143) in fifth and sixth, respectively.

A native of Osteras, Norway, Adde recorded a time of 1 minute, 50.30 seconds for a tie for ninth place. Adde, who tied with Utah's Torjus Korgdahl, picked up his first All-American honor.

Rounding out UAA's men's Alpine scoring was sophomore Halfdan Falkum-Hansen, who completed the GS in 18th place, posting a two-run time of 1:51.11. Combined, the two Norwegians registered 52.5 points.

On the women's side, Parker earned her third career All-America honor. The Canadian was clocked at 1:57.76, sharing 10th place with Vermont's Meg Ryley. Parker helped the UAA women to 58.5 points.

Also competing for UAA were freshmen Petra Gantnerova and Kayla Fry. Gantnerova (Kezmarok, Slovakia) finished her first race at the NCAA's in 19th with a time of 1:58.43, while Fry (Reno, Nev.) was 32nd with a time of 2:07.77.

Utah's Eva Huckova earned the NCAA title by winning the women's GS in 1:54.54, while Denver's Leif Haugenl won the men's title (1:48.84).

West Region skiers claimed four of the six podium positions, including placing 1-2-3 in the women's race.

The men's and women's classical are on tap for Day 2 of the NCAA Championships on Thursday as the competition venue moves to Howelsen Hill. UAA will be competing with a complete squad of six Nordic racers.
