ST. PETER, Minn. - The Alaska Anchorage's ski team produced a record-high 17 student-athletes on the 2010 National Ski Coaches Association All-Academic team. Paced by eight students with a perfect 4.0 GPA, the Seawolves broke the previous record of 13 recipients set last season.
The women's team tallied 9 All-Academic honors, including two-time honorees in sophomores Jaime Bronga, Sandra MacDonald, Alex Parker, Laura Rombach and Sarah Tegeler. Earning the honor for the first time was freshmen Ida Bjerka, Petra Gantnerova, Steffi Hiemer, and Kayla Fry and seniors Kristina Repcinova and Lacy Saugstad.
The men's squad recorded six participants on this year's academic team. Receiving his third career honor was senior Karl Schauer, while junior Max Treinen was a repeat from last season. Picking up their first award was junior Ryan Wolosyn, sophomore Lex Treinen and freshmen Cameron Brewington, Michael Schallinger.
The 17 recipients are out of the 24 members that make up the UAA ski team.
To qualify for the team, a student-athlete must participate at the regional meet and finish the fall term with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
The Seawolves will compete in the 2010 NCAA Skiing Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colo. on March 10-13.
