SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Trinity International University is an NAIA program located in Deerfield, Ill., in Chicago's northern suburbs ... the Trojans come to Alaska riding a 9-game losing streak ... TIU, which plays in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, has posted its lone wins over East-West University (100-86) and Clark College (97-86) ... 5-8 Jr. G Patrick Atkins leads his team with 16.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 4.0 apg.
'WOLVES SLAM JAMBOREE FOES: UAA took the unofficial title of its own AT&T Jamboree with wins over Western New Mexico (69-39) and Chaminade (75-53), Dec. 19-20 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex ... in the first game, Jr. G Brandon Walker scored a game-high 19 points (7-13 FG, 4-4 FT) and Jr. F Nick Pacitti had career-highs of 14 points (5-7 FG) and 15 rebounds as UAA held the Mustangs to 26.5 percent shooting and outrebounded them 50-30 ... the result was never truly in doubt as UAA jumped to an 18-1 lead before WNMU scored its first field goal at the 9:27 mark ... Walker, scored 17 of his points in the first half as the Seawolves built a 38-15 advantage at the break ... Jr. G Kevin White had 5 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals, plus a career-high-tying 8 rebounds, while Fr. C Liam Gibcus tied his then-personal-best with 9 points on near-perfect shooting (2-2 FG, 5-6 FT) ... in the second game, Walker scored 20 points and Drew Robinson dished 7 assists as UAA gave 6th-year head coach Rusty Osborne his 100th career victory ... the Seawolves also got 14 points from So. Malcolm Campbell and a career-high 10 points from Gibcus ... the Seawolves did much of their damage from long range, connecting on 11-of-25 3FGs (Walker 4-7; White 3-5, Donnie Lao 2-4) ... Walker, who was also a perfect 6 of 6 from the FT line, was named the Jamboree's Most Outstanding Player and was joined by White and Pacitti on the All-Jamboree Team.
TEAM NOTES: UAA is now 31-7 all-time in the AT&T Jamboree, including six straight victories ... UAA finished 4-0 against non-conference, NCAA Division II competition this season, winning by an average of 24.3 points against Hawaii Pacific, Grand Canyon, Western New Mexico and Chaminade ... the Seawolves set a school record for points allowed in consecutive games (77), holding consecutive opponents to under 40 points for the first time in program history with the GCU (67-38) and WNMU (69-39) wins; the previous mark of 81 points allowed was set by UAA's Final 4 team two years ago (38 at Seattle; 43 at MSUB) ... UAA has currently matched the record for points allowed in three consecutive games (130), although one of those games in Nov. 2006 came against NCCAA foe Lancaster Bible (102-30)... UAA's win over WNMU was its 10th straight against Mustangs, extending the longest current streak against any opponent ... UAA has now produced three of the top eight first-half defensive efforts in school history this season, with seven points allowed at American Sports University (school record), 10 against GCU and 15 against WNMU ... the Seawolves lead the GNAC in five categories - 3FG% (.409), 3FGs made per game (8.2), rebound margin (+11.0), rebound defense (27.8) and defensive rebound pct. (.776) ... in the initial NCAA Div. II national rankings, UAA is 16th in rebound margin, 21st in 3FG%, and 27th in scoring defense (61.4 ppg) ... with seven points allowed in the first half against American Sports (Nov. 11) and 10 against Grand Canyon (Dec. 12), the Seawolves have now twice eclipsed the previous school record for fewest points allowed in a half (11 vs Lancaster Bible, Nov. 2006) ... the Seawolves also set new marks vs. Div. I opponents with 19 rebounds allowed and .750 3FG shooting against Nicholls State in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.
THE FIRST CENTURY: With the Chaminade win, 6th-year coach Rusty Osborne became the fourth Seawolf mentor to achieve 100 career victories ... Osborne needs nine more wins to catch Ron Abegglen (109, 1986-91) for No. 3 on the UAA coaching victories list.
'WOLF BITES: Jr. G Brandon Walker ran his double-digit scoring streak to seven games with 19- and 20-point showings last week ... since shooting 1-of-7 in the season opener, Walker has connected at a .588 clip from the floor, including .526 from 3FG range ... Walker's 20 points against Chaminade was his sixth career 20-plus effort, including four in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout ... the Californian was the 2009 Shootout's 2nd-leading scorer, tallying 69 points in three games ... in the GNAC stats, Walker ranks 6th in scoring (15.8 ppg), 3rd in 3FG% (.500), 4th in 3FGs per game (2.3), 11th in FG% (.552), 17th in rebounding (5.7) and 5th in minutes per game (32.1) ... Jr. G Kevin White has earned starting assignments in 36 of the last 37 games ... with four treys last week, White moved into 13th place on UAA's career 3FGs list with 106; he needs 13 to catch Burt Wallace (1994-98) for 12th place ... the Aussie also ranks 10th in career 3FG% at .427 ... White currently holds GNAC ranks of 8th in assists (3.4), 3rd in assist/turnover ratio (2.2) and 8th in 3FG% (.400) ... Jr. G Drew Robinson paces the Seawolves and ranks 7th in the GNAC with 4.2 assists per game ... the Salt Lake CC transfer has UAA's top two assist totals thus far with seven against GCU and Chaminade ... So. C Malcolm Campbell rates 11th in the GNAC in scoring (14.3 ppg) and 13th in FG% (.538), plus 18th in rebounding (5.4) ... Campbell has scored double digits in seven of nine outings thus far ... Jr. F Casey Robinson is UAA's 3rd-leading scorer (8.2 ppg) and ranks 9th in the GNAC in both 3FG% (.386) and 3FGs per game (1.9) ... the Manila, Utah, native was the GNAC Player of the Week for his performance in the Dec. 11-12 Glacier Classic in Fairbanks ... Jr. G Donnie Lao currently sports the only perfect FT% among GNAC players, making his first 16 charities as a Seawolf, although he has not been to the line since the Shootout ... after missing the Glacier Classic with pneumonia, Lao returned to action in the Jamboree with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in 40 total minutes ... Jr. F Nick Pacitti shot into the team lead in rebounding (5.8 rpg) with 23 boards in the Jamboree; the L.A. Trade Tech JC transfer entered the week with a total of 29 rebounds in the first seven games ... Pacitti's 15 boards against WNMU rated as the most for a Seawolf against a fellow Division II opponent since Carl Arts pulled down the same number in a 91-76 loss at Seattle Pacific on Jan. 20, 2005 ... Fr. F/C Liam Gibcus also had a breakout weekend in the Jamboree, scoring 19 points after entering the weekend with a 3.6 ppg average ... the true freshman from Australia was perfect on 6 FG attempts and shot 7 of 9 from the FT line in the Jamboree, tallying a career-high 10 points against Chaminade.
