ANCHORAGE - Members of the Alaska Anchorage ski team competed in the first weekend of the 2009-10 Besh Cup series that concluded on Sunday Chugiak high school with the distance classical skate races.
The Seawolves, skating as individuals, were led by sophomore Jaime Bronga in the women's 10k classical interval start. Bronga, an Anchorage native, finished the race tied for first place in a time of 32:34.40. Sophomore Laura Rombach (32:59.50) was third, junior Kelsey Coolidge (35:19.70) was 19th and sophomore Sarah Tegeler (36:19.90) finished in 26th place.
On the men's side, head coach Trond Flagstad led his team with a fifth-place showing in the 15k race with a time of 41:05.40. Rookie Michael Schallinger (42:14.50) was seventh, junior Max Treinen (44:39.00) was 17th, senior Karl Schauer (44:56.80) was 21st, and sophomore Lex Treinen (46:34.70) completed the course in 38th.
On Saturday, 260 skiers competed in the first race of the series in the sprint races at Kincaid Park. Leading the Seawolf pack was Bronga. She finished second in the A Final of the Junior 1, Older Junior and Masters division, finishing the 1k race in a time of 3:46.71.
Schauer led the Seawolf men with a sixth place showing in the B Final with a time of 3:39.73.
