Seawolf gymnasts sign Empire State standout

ANCHORAGE ? Alaska Anchorage gymnastics coach Paul Stoklos announced Monday that Kaelei Spoor, of Rome, N.Y., has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Seawolves, beginning with the upcoming 2009 season.

Spoor was a four-time state meet qualifier as a prep gymnast at Rome Free Academy, finishing third on floor exercise, fourth on beam and 12th in the all-around as a senior in 2008. She was also named to the Central New York Counties League all-star team on all four events last season.

“Kaelei showed a tremendous amount of consistency as both a high school and club gymnast,” Stoklos said. “She will train on all four events with us, and we hope she can help us throughout the lineup. We are happy to have her join the Seawolf family.”

Competing for Central New York Gymnastics, Spoor placed fourth in the all-around at the 2007 Level 10 Regional meet and qualified for L10 Nationals, where she placed 56th.

Spoor joins fellow incoming freshman Jackie Thomas (Colorado Springs, Colo.) as the second signee in UAA's 2008-09 recruiting class.
