Johansson earns Academic All-District nod

ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage's Hanna Johansson was named Thursday to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 Women's Basketball Team, recognizing the senior as one of the top six student-athletes among the 32 schools of the NCAA Division II West Region.

The 6-2 center from Gothenburg, Sweden, was honored for her 3.66 overall grade-point average as a journalism & public communications major, plus her outstanding play on the court for the nationally 8th-ranked Seawolves.

UAA's career field-goal percentage leader at .538, Johansson is averaging 14.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and shooting 56 percent from the floor in her fourth and final campaign. The 2010-11 first-team all-conference and all-region selection ranks among the Seawolves' career top 10 in nearly every major statistical category, including seventh in points (1,215), fifth in rebounds (710) and sixth in steals (177).

The Capital One all-district teams are voted on by sports information directors throughout the NCAA's eight geographical districts, with the Div. II West Region comprised of three leagues – the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, the Pacific West Conference and the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Johansson and the other academic all-district honorees now advance to the Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
